The exhaust of any gas/diesel/hfo generator/s or Turbine/s is taken into a waste heat recovery boiler/exhaust gas boiler to generate free steam for free Power(steam turbine to generate electricity ) or process or to generate free hot water for free airconditioning chillers/process.

....and/or to preheat incoming air or water for either the generator or for other utility services.

It is important to keep the stack exit temperature above the dewpoint of sulphuric acid otherwise the exhaust system will probably rot away before its use-by date.

The Diesel Engine Efficiency will be around 38 Percent of HEAT INPUT and the heat lost through the EXHAUST GAS will be in the order of 35 Percent in terms of HEAT INPUT all interms CALORIFIC VALUE of the diesel, and this EXHAUST HEAT GOES AS WASTE HEAT TO ATMOSPHERE. This waste heat can be recovered for heating water etc. the WASTED ENERGY is saved and cost of fuel will come down.

The heat recovery equipment will offer a small resistance for the flow of exhaust gas and the energy lost in the over coming of exhaust gas is to be subtracted from the energy saved, thus over-all benifit is to evaluated.

Care is to be taken for DEW POINT TEMPERATURE which will decide the Degree of waste heat recovery.
