12/06/2010 5:05 AM

Dear members,

I need a simple pump to pour controlled amount of water from a standing jar to a standing glass near to it.If any of you have an idea I would be pleased to see it.

What you ask for sounds like a tott measure.

I saw plans for one based on a reciprocating paraffin pump at the patent office a Long time ago.

Maybe you can have a look at the beer pump in a bar.

Don't accuse me of driving you to booze but you may find you solution in the bar and the advice of a barman is only second to CR4 (until the next morning)

What volume do you need?

Some more ideas (not to scale)

It truly is homework then it is incoceivable that the home doesn't have a number of devices that do exactly what the original poster wants. What do they teach in schools these days <rhetorical question>?

Nope not homework - View the mans profile.

My take on it is that such a contraption would be handy at a lemonade stand (maybe for one of his children) aimed at optimising the profit and it is a lot of work to decant this stuff from a jar.

Hendrik,

You are the only one who remember to look at my profile.Yes I am not joking and I don't understand why all the people answer my question are kidding. The problem is not a usual pump which can't control the flow.I need to control the amount of water during pumping. In usual pumps while you fill a glass you can't stop flowing and some water goes out. Please be more serious.

I was trying to be serious.

If you care to state the setup , volume . accuracy , flow rate etc CR4 would be enabled to assist you better.

A peristaltic pump might do the job for you - (as shown in one of the images) but the flow rate might be too small. Del the Cat may be able to help you there.

The flush / discharge mechanism of an urinal could be adapted.

An syringe type of dispenser may also do.

A reciprocating pump where you can set the stroke length may also work.

A coffee vendor machine may also work.

I have a (unfinished) design (somewhere) of a shooter mixer using stepper motors stripped from stiffy drives - driven by an PIC that may also work.

Tell us what you need and we will apply our minds.

You are still don't want to understand what I mean.I NEED A PUMP OR DEVİCE TO CONTROL FLOW OF WATER.WITH THE PUMP İN THE DRAWİNG YOU CAN ADJUST THE FLOW BY THE AMOUNT OF PUSHES.IF YOU PUSH A LITTLE BIT MORE WATER CAN GO OUT OF GLASS.IS IT CLEAR NOW?

Re: Manual Water Pump

This is a reciprocating pump to explain the concept.

There are non return valves at the bottom and in the plunger

When the plunger is pressed down the bottom valve will close and the water will be moved from the bottom to the top cavity and no water will be discharged.

If the plunger is lifted the top valve will close and the water above the plunger will be discharged while new water will be sucked up to fill the void through the bottom non-return.

The volume can be regulated by the length of the stroke.

The same basic idea will be found in other pumps.

The non return valves is the key.

How about something as simple as a tube and a clamp?

I realise this may not be the answer, just a thought.
