I run a fibreglass manufacturing plant in South Africa and a worker allowed dried gelcoat to enter his toe fibres in November 2009; now, various symptoms prevail. Should you have a link or possible advice, it will be helpfull.
Please explain this: a worker allowed dried gelcoat to enter his toe fibres, especially how this was supposedly the worker's fault. Inparticular, how did "dried gelcoat" manage to do this? This scenario doesn't compute (as explained so far).

The worker spilled gelcoat on his toe while wearing sandals (against the Rules); it was then allowed to dry and subsequently entered his toe where the nail and the flesh meets.
It would be good advice, then, to review the operation by carrying out a formal Risk Assessment. If the outcome of that assessment requires the wearing of appropriate footwear for certain operations, then it is up to the employer to make provision for it and to enforce it, so as to prevent recurrence.
