What Does Re-Entrant Mean with Respect to Fire Alarms?

01/10/2011 1:53 PM

I am going through some old specifications, no model number but it is referred to as a re-entrant horn speaker.

I have tried the web and a few colleges around the office and can't get a straight answer.

Happy Monday :(

If a fire extinguishing medium such as CO2 is used, the space in question must be ventilated before anyone can go there. When enough ventilation time has passed, this could be announced by such a speaker.

It has been a long time since worked on a boat that had a CO2 system. There was an alarm bell prior to the release of of CO2, but I forget what the subsequent "all clear" scheme was. Sorry for the vagueness; I was just describing the basic idea.

Thank you, i think i found it. It seems to be a live one way communication system. This specific model is 70V 98dB which allows for someone at centrol control to inform workers/ first response/ etc regarding the situation.

Cheers and thanks ;)

It's got bugger-all to do with fire alarm systems; it's just a loudspeaker. It may be used in an alarm system as an annunciator, but that's it.

jeees louise, why not just make it up as you go. The answer to the question is easy, a re-entrant horn speaker is the shape of the speaker, the specifications called for these as they were directional a very clear compared to crappy box speakers as they have no bass.

Kind silly really being that horn and re-entarnt really mean the same thing.

re-enrant - steep valley shape
