What is the Name of This Stopper?

02/01/2011 9:28 PM

I need a stopper which should damp the load of 2tones. let me explain it in detail, a trolley of 2 tones sliding over the rail will be hitting a stopper bracket made of I section, thought the Stopper bracket is designed according to the impact load, i need the stopper made of rubber which should be positioned over the stopper bracket so that it will damp the force acting on it.also please give the information regarding its availability in the market?

You really need to provide more information on this request. A diagram showing the layout PLUS details of velocity of the trolley AND stroke available (allowable compression) of the stopper.

I suspect that you will need to develop a special item for your application and you would then be best talking directly with rubber manufacturers in your location.

They may have a basic figure "8" or "O" shape that can be compressed and absorb/transfer the energy. The rubber manufacturer will then be able to determine combination of hardness, thickness (cross section) and so on to satisfy your request.

so u mean that, there is no product available directly in the market to satisfy my criteria.

The velocity of the trolley is 6m/min. and the allowable dia of this rubber stopper is 100mm.

Most stoppers I've used look like this. Using one of these to stop 2 tonnes of anything at any velocity faster than a snail will easily break labware. You really need to do a better job of qualifying your problem. To make a hyperbolic example, trying to stop 2 tonnes of anything at the sub-sonic velocity of 180m/s, with any kind of impact method will result in damage somewhere.

Hello yuvarajsukumaran,

What part of the world are you. ACE Controls International manufacture a huge range of industrial shock absorbers (more accurately described as Linear Decellerators).

They have a range of rubber buffers that have excellent decelleration characteristics.

If you are in or near India the web address is acecontrols.in otherwise Google them they have excellent technical support.

Best regards

John

I think what you want is a railroad buffer stop. Go to the link below.

I don't know the name of what you are describing but what about something similar to these: http://www.loadingdocksupply.com/dock_bumpers

Shipyards use such rubber damper at dock sides; my advise is use something like truck's spring assisted shock absorber.

To do it nicely have a look at old volvo bumpers (US fenders): they were designed for almost exactly this application.

If aesthetics are not important, use old car tyres.

If you are from India ask any local Crane or hoist mfr/dealer he will supply you End Buffer Stopper.Alternatively you can procure good quality rubber buffer of suitable size and fix it on the I section stopper bracket by drilling holes.
