Sudden Opening And Closing Of Ipesv In 250 Mw Steam Turbine

04/20/2011 10:36 AM

LET DISCUSS ONE THING, SUPPOSE 250MW KWU DESIGN STEAM TURBINE. MACHINE IS RUNNING ON FULL LOAD AND SUDDENLY IPESV GETTING CLOSED FOR A MOMENT(SAY 10SEC) AND AGAIN OPENED. OR FREQUENTLY GETTING CLOSE AND OPEN. WHAT WOULD BE THE EFFECT ON TURBINE.

RESULTS HP EXHAUST TEMPERTURE WILL SHOT UP APPROX. 700-800DEG C BUT WHY? WHAT WOULD BE THE EFFECT ON HP TURBINE BLADES?

Please turn off the all-caps key.

What is IPESV (which should be capitalized)? Intermediate pressure .... solenoid valve? What circuit controls this valve that would allow it to be closed momentarily?

Thanks for response.

IPESV means intermediate prsessure emergency stop valve.

these are isolating the IP turbine from HRH line.

It looks like a fault on the equipment that is operating the <...IPESV...>.

For one thing, it might not be suitable for it to self-reset, for example. Without a Functional Design Specification dosument being to hand it is difficult to comment further.

IP - Definition by AcronymFinder

HRH - Definition by AcronymFinder

It is always a good plan to define abbreviations before using them.

What type control system do you have? EHC, MHC. What is the age of the turbine.

If it is an EHC unit you may have a control function that looks for a fault to ground and causes quick closing and reopening of the valves to keep a machine with a loose tie to the system from slipping a pole. Kind of far fetched. but who knows.

Sounds like you need the help of KWU.
