Equipment Price Plus Labor

04/23/2011 10:57 AM

What is this price called when the Vendor give us the price of each item plus labor cost in the quotation? It means there is not separated labor cost for the work. Any specific term?

This depends on local customs about terminology. In the U.S., the phrases "equipment and labor" or "time and materials" would mean that labor is included in the quoted price. Other phrasings such as "equipment only, labor additional" would mean that only the equipment/materials were included, and the labor/time would be charged additionally (such as when the job was complete and the labor/time actually known).

In cases of doubt, confer with the quoter to be sure just what is/is not included.

Tornado is right. "Time and Materials" is commonly used for that.

Labor cost is to install ,commission, test and handover the equipment as per the agreed specifications. Some vendors include it as a total price of the equipment and some quote it separately.

In this ole life, starting in the wee 30's I have sold, fire place inserts, Cabinets, doors, door bells, Air condition systems, large and small, and installed as many. When buying or selling any peice of equipment, be it a bicycle or a mining remote belt driven conveyer when you tell the customer the the price is the equipment only and the 'plus the labor', is just what it indicates '+' , to be added on if you want me to install it..Then an agreement must be made, downtown Dallas on the 18th. floor or two blocks down the street. assembly at your establishment can be calculated and passed that the transportation and labor prices must be 'Added' '+' plus..Back in the wee 40's we were taught this in the 3rd grade.

When you are 75 the wee years is 1930's and the wee 40's would be 1940's for the 3rd grade and then you paid very good attention to the person talking 'selling' and assumed nothing except what is said.' All parts and labor included', 'This includes installation', 'this includes transportation to your site', are inclusion terms and word of mouth or on paper makes it so. But 'included is not '+' plus

I always refer to this as an Itemized Quote, it breaks things down to the cost of each item.

We seem to be banging around this question. I'll throw in.

I have called this "Lump Sum, Installed Complete". To me, this would mean the price of purchase of all of the varied fasteners, tools, etc. (sometimes called 'incidentals') are included. I always exclude final cleaning and finish painting, and that is called out specifically in my price offer.

As Tornado says, local customs can vary this. Carefully read the price offer and if still unclear, ask for clarification.
