If DCS Fails What to Do

Ideally, there should be "hard-wired" mechanical controls in addition to DCS/SCADA/PLC systems.

The safety valve may lift.

The burners will shut down.

Turbines will slow to zero r.p.m.

Then, everything goes quiet after a while.

Remain calm, every site is designed a little differently and the staff hired specifically to maintain and control the site will jump into action and fix the problem (or at the very least safely shut down the plant while the DCS is fixed).

That is what they were hired to do, if you are one of them then talk with your manager regarding what you should be doing.
