What would the benefit of this be? Do you think it might increase the use of OT voting if a "mark of shame" was displayed in others' profiles?

You may be right about that. I would hope not, but human nature is what it is.

Additionally, some members seem to mark every one of their own comments OT, even if it is a substantial contribution to the thread.

I was just curious as to which of my posts has attracted some OT after GA votes lately.

I don't see any benefit in that. The GAs are misleading anyway, some of my best answers have been moved off the front page so quickly that not enough people read them to award GAs.

In any case, there appear to be a couple of cliques here who award a GA for a friend's amusing OT, rendering the system useless.

Your comment about cliques sounds like sour grapes to me.

I would agree with your second comment about GA and OT if you disagree with some opinions you are "awarded" OTs just for giggles i think

I believe that the OT feature is not a reliable indication of a post's validity. I see many OT's that I think are not justified. (Not that my opinion matters)

I think that may be a glitch because it also happens to be the date of your post. It was rated OT by a moderator because it was related to a deleted spam comment.

Yeah, I explained in the thread that merph and I had visited about the spam, and I invited him to have some fun with my OT. It's all good. As I said in the thread, I think it's funny. Merph seems to have a sense of humor, and I enjoy that. This forum is (I believe, anyway) supposed to be a little bit of fun. I try to keep it light.

I certainly wouldn't want to be associated with any clique that would consider having me!!
