Torx or Studwelding

08/24/2011 3:35 AM

Hello all,

Please let me know, which is the least expensive process out of torx and stud welding. Currently we are using torx process to connect screw boss and base plate, if I move to stud welding in place of torxing will I get any saving without compromising quality.

Material which is being used for bottom plate and screw boss is Aluminium.

Thanks and Regards,

Can you explain a little more about the "torx" process? (Torx is also the name for an internal socket screw drive system shaped like a six-pointed star.)

Hello,

It is TOXING not TORXING, sorry for misspelled the word. Its a metal joining process by squeezing different parts.

below is the link to understand the process well.

Thanks

Metal can be joined simply by applying enough force. Swords have been made in this way for centuries, for example.

Looks like the TOX equipment would cost more than welders, maybe not.

It just depends on what you are trying to join, quantity, materials, etc.

If you already have the TOX equipment, welding will have the cost of new equipment to consider.

TOX would allow you to join dissimilar metals, welding would not, normally.

Talk to equipment sellers and get a cost per joint figure from them. Then, do the math.
