Reduction of RPM of Motor

hi to all

can anyone please tell me how can i reduce rpm of motor used in tailers machine for wearing cloths up to 15 to 16 rpm i m think to use it for my project and less rpm is issential....thanks in advance for reply....

As far as I remember these are single phase universal motors or simple single phase induction motors. add variable Resistance in series or use electronic regulator or use variac (variable auto transformer).

If you just want a constant speed as PWSlack said gearbox or gear reducer called here.

You could also use sprockets or pulleys to reduce the speed.
