Ebenezer Scrooge likes 2000K candlelight, but Bob Cratchit hates it.

It's one of those odd things about they way people see colors and associate them with moods and temperatures -- that white light that is bluish looks 'cool' while white light that is reddish looks 'warm', even though bluish whites have a high color temperature (above 5500 Kelvin) and reddish whites have a low color temperature (below 3500 Kelvin).

Most people prefer office lighting that is in between these extremes (the Goldilocks Principle: not too hot, not too cold) and prefer a white with a color temperature around 4500 Kelvin.

Keep in mind, though, that LEDs have a slightly worse Color Rendering Index (CRI) than incandescent or (most) fluorescent lamps. This poorer CRI performance means that the colors of things - clothing, paint, paper, inks, etc. - will not appear quite the same under LED lighting as in sunlight or the other types of lighting. For many people this won't matter too much, but in some offices that deal with graphics design (for example) this could be very important.

Use the one that you like personally.

No matter what you put in there will be somebody who doesn't like it.

What sort of quantities are you talking about?

Recommend you put a mix of 6000K and 4000K this will even out the effect of one extreme or the other.

Color temperature selections may also depend on what colors you have in the office.. Resulting color temperature may vary and rely on the effects and reflections of whatever colors you have on your wall coverings?

No, just on watts (including ballasts, starters, or other electronic controls).

Not really - especially even if the air conditioning units have built-in eyes in them and are color blind, otherwise color temperature will mostly matter to those people working in that office..

I just installed line voltage LED flood lamps and tracks in our kitchen. They're PAR30 650 Lm bulbs, E27, with 60 degree flood cone, and Daylight White (5700 Kelvin color temp.). My wife loves them. So do I, but feel the need to dim them down slightly because the reflections off of the polished granite counter tops is pretty intense IMO.

When you color calibrate monitors you do so at 5000k to simulate indoor colors or 9000k to simulate outdoor colors. The first simulates a well lit office environment the second a sunny day. I would suggest anywhere from 4000k to 6000k. A dimmer might be a good idea as you can adjust it to taste then as long as you have enough lights to reach your maximum. You don't want too bright (much over 6000K) as eye strain will ensue, but neither does too dim work (under 4000k).

4000-5000K... anything less is too yellow, anything more is too blue.

Check this link for color temperatures for fluorescent lamps

http://donklipstein.com/f-spec.html

SPECTRAL/PHOSPHOR CLASS:

Halophosphate - these are the original types, which include "Warm White" (3000K), "White" (3500K), "Cool White" (4100K) and "Daylight" (6500K). The color rendering index (0-100 scale) is 53 for "Warm white", 62 for "Cool white", and 79 for "Daylight". The spectrum is extra-rich in yellow and orange-yellow and low on red and green. This causes reds and greens to look darker and duller than normal and skin tones to be pale.

Usually for offices Daylight lamps are used. As lamps with less color temperature are claimed to create an atmosphere more favorable to getting sleepy. But no boss wants his employees to sleep in office.

Also the color rendering issue is more important in some offices. The CRI is the index of how true the colors are seen under a certain light. As you see the Daylight lamps have a higher CRI than the other colors.
