Running a 60Hz 525V Motor on 50Hz Supply

what are the effects of running a 60 hz 525V motor on a 50hz Power supply. what should i take into consideration before i connect? please help.

525V x 50/60 = 437.5V; horsepower or kw would be 5/6 of before.

You don't say how many poles the motor has but if it runs it will run much slower. Sync speed / poles pairs and all of the good stuff.

However - if the machine is only constructed for use on 60Hz it will not be able to stand the much higher current it will draw on 50Hz and you will likely need a fire extinguisher.

The calcs are there but reduced iron content / lower frequency its about 133% on the current.

As the motor will run at 50/60 speed, functionality of the equipment it is driving is of importance too.

the voltage at 50hz is 525V still. i was thinking of supplying the motor with 415V at 50hz still, what do you think?

Its time to buy the right motor for the job and hire an electrical engineer. This is guesswork and an accident waiting to happen.

u are going to reduce the frequency.

suppose if u continously go on reducing the frequency wat will happen..? one stage will come that ur a.c will not be an a.c . it will be a d.c sourse. now a d.c sourse will not create a changing magnetic field. thus a motor's rotor will not rotate. and ur motor winding will create a very low impedance load for dat d.c sourse. thus it will draw more current and eventually heating of winding will start and finally burning of winding.

so this means dat if we reduce frequency, first of all speed will start reducing, 2nd current consumption will start increasing.

i think to maintain kw of motor we have to increase the voltage.
