Paper Cutting Device

05/11/2007 7:37 AM

We are looking for some help in getting a paper cutting machine. The device needs to cut a "wavy" pattern on the outside edges paper as it is continuously moving threw machine. We would prefer not to have to design this part of the machine as there are already these types of machines on the market (ex. envelope machines). So if somebody knows of or is working for this type of company please post.

Thanks

Water jets are the new industry standard for paper cutting, they cut so fast that the paper does not absorb the water.

That is a very interesting company. We have used companies that use water jets to cut our sheet metal parts, but never thought it could work "dry" on paper. I am going to find out if it can produce a pattern cut as the paper is moving through. It might only be capable of "straight" cuts. And what kind of mess is there going to be when there is a jamb?

Thanks

Your welcome Farmer Bob,

I would be interested to see the results of your enquiry and what your actual application is. I know the jets are often used for cutting paper patterns on layered 3D paper models so can it cut complex shapes. It was funny as I only saw the orange county chopper guys last night visit the flow factory to receive a 5 aixis flow jet cutter. They had a small presentation where they showed some other items that get cut with a flow jet including nappies (diapers) and carrots.

I use a pen plotter fitted with a cutting blade (swivel in holder with tip offset) to cut out shapes in vinyl sheets or rolls. A drum type plotter should work on paper as well, especially if the pattern is cut on the sides. A slight modification must be made to the pinching wheels.

The cutting blade can be bought or made from hobby knives,

I have a small Roland plotter with firmware included to change into vinyl cutting mode. this may also be available on drum type plotters. In cutting mode the tool path must arc around the corners.

Pen plotters have been replaced by modern plotters therefore brand new plotters are available at minimal prizes. I recently bought an A0 drum plotter for the equivalent of $50 and a flatbed A3 was given to me to get rid of it.
