Can Use Valve With U Seal?

my question is that can we use any type of valves with upstream or downstream of mechanical U seal for isolate u seal path?if we use or not please give reason.

By U seal do you mean U trap?

In a kitchen sink with a trap a plug is used upstream with good effect.

A downstream valve will be equivalent to a blockage and may cause the trapped material to rise to the sink as well.

We call 'em P traps, here in the USA. And it isn't because of the fluid they transport.
