CR4's site is so totally unresponsive tonight it's not even worth the trouble. This has been going on for some time now (as others will attest) without any explanation (or assurances) whatsoever from IHS/GlobalSpec/CR4 sysadmins.

Have you guys been hacked? Is it even SAFE to be on this site? What the hell is going on?

If this keeps up, kill my account. You're losing my trust in the security of your site.

Nothing unusual here.

It is the holiday season in many parts of the globe. One might suspect that numbers of CR4 subscribers are away from the site and relaxing/touring/adventure-making elsewhere.

Seems to me the reduced load would make their servers more responsive, not less. We've been on this site through others' holidays before, but I've never seen anything like this.

Re: ?????

My android phone generally times out before I get a response. May get lucky 4th or 5th time. Even "mark all comment as read" takes ages. I can usually play a game of solitaire while waiting for a response on my (XP) desktop.

It's lumpy tho' - sometimes back to normal for 5 minutes, then snail's pace for the next half hour.

Logged out earlier, and when I came back I was still logged in.

Replying to a PM earlier, I spent an age stuck staring at html for the message I was replying to.

I'd doubt the site is hacked, but something is very funked up. Did somebody at Troy upset 'The Architect' ?

I noticed that we were experiencing some slowness problems last week. I've contacted our internal help desk again to see what may be causing the problem and if they've identified a fix. I'll follow up with all of you when I find out.

I haven't experienced the kind of problems you describe. The responsiveness seems okay to me. Nothing out of the ordinary.

I sometimes have problems with FireFox loading pages, and when that happens I have to hit 'stop' and then 'reload' and then the page loads properly - but that's a problem I have with FireFox on other websites, too. I've tried other browsers like IE and Flashpeak but I have even more problems with them. I'm running FF 14.0.1 on Win XP.

Your home router/network may be compromised. Which would include your computer and phone.

Go to a library and use one of their terminals.

Re: ?????

08/20/2012 9:08 AM

I get periods where the site does not respond and that has been the case for about a week. Rarely does it time out, but it can freeze for a long time.

I can, during those moments where it freezes, select a different website (unrelated to CR4) and everything works fine.

If it is not the CR4 servers that are at fault it may be a primary or secondary internet exchange hub that is to blame.

That may explain why some have issues and others never see an issue, depending on where their traffic is routed.

If the internet goes totally dark it will be time to fire up the Ham rig. :)

This is what I heard back from our help desk:

CR4 was experiencing some issues on and off for about a week. Yesterday's slowness occurred when the server was restarted. Site performance has been monitored for the past 24 hours and CR4 has been more responsive.

It is still safe to continue using CR4. The problems have nothing to do with the IHS:GlobalSpec integration.

Please let me know if you experience any other problems with the site.

Much improved today, but it was sluggish for a half-hour period about 4 hours ago (to be more specific, CR4 wouldn't load - Error 503). Thanks for clarifying where the issue was caused.

Speed is up to par. Thank you!

Problems still remain, however...

When I'm visiting my 'home page' I get a certain count of new posts on threads and of unread PMs. But when I visit some other page, the counts of both are different (and current).

One problem may be that you're running Microsoft-IIS/7.0. (note to self: keep linux/Apache for the foreseeable future).

We have a runner up - Rixter at #2 (1.9 mins).

Looks like admin have locked themselves out ! hahahahahaha! It's play time .

For *************** sake, sort this out admin. If Globalspec can't run a free aside such as CR4, who will have confidence in using Globalspec itself ? If CR4 flounders, Globalspec looses all the word of mouth recommendations that it never hears of.

Re: ?????

That large number of visitors occurred when our site was being crawled one time. It's not a realistic number.

"If Globalspec can't run a free aside such as CR4, who will have confidence in using Globalspec itself ?"

GlobalSpec and CR4 are not on the same server. The GlobalSpec server is not even in the same state.

We do our best to keep CR4 running smoothly. While the best things in life are often free, they are not always perfect. Sites go down and there's always chaos when Facebook or Twitter aren't functioning. It's good to know that CR4 has the same level of "addictiveness" if people are so upset about this.

It was the '0' that amused me, I hadn't even noticed the fairly funny large number - norm seems to be 200-300. If you don't mind, I'll leave the quote up for a few hours.

What, the Globalspec server is in a worse state ?

I'll go chill my head for a while .

If I were to hazard a guess, I'd say it was located just down the street of what used to be International Medical Corp. (I-M-C K-E-Y M-O-U-S-E, IMCKEY MOUSE, IMCKEY MOUSE, or so the tune went. Just ask Charlie) and sort of near where Denver's NY Times distributor might still be and not much of a fur piece from Monolithic Systems and Hemotech. This is all ancient history of course. Where the server is actually located is very near a patch of what used to be prairie grass where BJ Thomasina once gave a killer performance. Lawdy!
