Here's Something You Don't See Everyday

09/23/2012 12:25 AM

Thousands of pro-American Libyans took to the streets attacking militant extremists groups, forcing them to flee....These are the groups responsible for the attack on the American embassy there, resulting in the deaths of the Ambassador and his aids...

http://www.nytimes.com/2012/09/22/world/africa/pro-american-libyans-besiege-militant-group-in-benghazi.html?pagewanted=all

Ran 'em out of town....

Maybe CR4 should start a division on political/religious engineering....

(Though it is about time we begin to see things like this.)

Thousands of pro-American Libyans...
It's not all about you...
They are against the armed extremist unrepresentative militia.
It doesn't mean they are either pro or anti US.

Close, but it may not be that altruistic.

This appears to be fighting between multiple internal factions within Libya that are struggling to fill the power vacuum, much like the Muslim Brotherhood ultimately did in Egypt. In this case there is not a strong military to maintain control of the state.

I agree it shouldn't be about us. And it's not. But you know how the media likes to sell something. In this case it's public support for the aid given to the Libyan people. Yes our media has the right to free speech and they play at politics too.

Too bad the rest of the world reads some of the garbage they print and thinks that is how the general population of the US views issues.

APPLAUSE for running them out of town! Is there any possibility that they may chase them into the Med?

[Actually, they should have hanged the bast*rds instead. Unfortunately, scores of people were killed in the process of sending them packing....]

Trying NOT to make this political or religious based......because a vast majority of Muslims are a peaceful and warm-hearted people. Just a rotten few spoil it for the rest.

Nothing but "smoke & mirrors" from the WH, so as to deflect the fact that O-Bozo missed a whole lot of morning Intelligence and Security Briefings prior to the American Embassy attack.......because the POTUS was too busy to attend those meetings by either playing golf or stumping for campaign contributions from the Kool-Aid gang....

No, b'ZERO is offensive, and heres some sources, before they close this down.

No he does his intelligence meetings by I-Pad, Anybody that does long distance meeting through electronic devices realize you miss allot of information. And that its only a stop gap.

What intel you may ask. When it is this important, and yes it is important that one should cancel a late night with Letterman to address these issues. Because one on one your able to read body language as well as matching voice inflection. You have a one on one with all your security cabinet. With them reading your body language and you theirs.

And doing the long distance communica between greens and talk show appearances, some of this info he may have been able to do something, such as I'm sure Christ Stevens shared his concerns about the clear and present danger in the meetings.........

or

Fast and Furious

or

Talk shows and holly wood.

sure you can kick out Fox on one of these if you like.

NO b'ZERO 2012

Damn I-pad...... for the typos.......I rest my case about long distance meetings.....

Its like talking to someone that has a debilitating st st st st stutter.

This could be done for Bill Clinton, but even Bill was a smart enough like to divide the country.

Look at the president this way, as a pilot of an airplane.

This is what the presidency is becoming under b'Zero

The fact that our president skips a lot of intel briefings is well documented.

However, I do not think that protecting a consulate from what appears to be an imminent attack is something that requires the president to sign off on. There are other reasons lower down the chain that are the root causes.

It is reasonable to assume that any significant terrorist attack on President Obama's watch will deeply hurt his reelection chances. This is probably why the administration deflected the obvious for so long and used a film that had not been actually released as a straw man (an 'escape goat' as some CR4 members might say :) ).

One the pillars of President Obama's foreign policy to fight terrorism is to show a kinder, gentler side to the US. I feel that this has had a negative impact in this case because it has created a very clear perception that the US is soft on terrorism. The same goes with the perception that the president is inexperienced and lacks assertiveness in foreign policy in general.

In fact, Obama's foreign policy is really more of a hand's off and see where the dice land strategy. Obama would rather disengage from world events and let things play out on their own than interject as the US has done in the past. Again, this creates a perception of indecisiveness and weakness in the US.

Terrorists and foreign leaders are both taking full advantage of this perception and are now driving the issues and forcing the US into a more reactive mode.

No, I agree, but being not misinformed but uninformed of what is going on by not going to or having a virtual security meeting.

An example is the the initial official response from the WH is that this was not a terrorist attach or even an attack, ...... it was a protest.

Terrorists and foreign leaders are both taking full advantage of this perception and are now driving the issues and forcing the US into a more reactive mode.

And that is the problem, having these intel meeting as a lower priority than smoozing with hollywood is that we are left to being reactive not proactive.

Who missed the intel that was burning the ears of some NSA people proir to 9/11?

Who dismissed Kenneth Johnson's (Phoenix FBI agent)reports of mid-eastern flight students who were not concerned with take-offs or landings, but rather "how to drive the planes"? Not POTUS, he never saw the reports.

I'm neither defending Obama, nor condemning him. It's just that there are myriads of decisions and reams of intel the POTUS never sees.

Just sayin.

It's just that there are myriads of decisions and reams of intel the POTUS never sees.

You would be surprised what we don't know Lyn. And just think how much more limitations on the intel that are being passed up there especially when we have 'Otto' for a Pilot, because the POTUS is missing these.

Who missed the intel that was burning the ears of some NSA people prior to 9/11?

I said this before, because we Americans are an arrogant bunch, thats why. And its getting worse.

Back in the 90's we were working on a SOC (Special Operations Craft) for the Navy Seals, The 'Mark V' I believe. I think its up to Mark VII.

We had a Design firm from the U.K. design it for us. The Naval Architects from the U.K. were telling us, Our engineering group at the shipyard, they we are headed for trouble. No one and I mean no one asked what they meant by that.

But I asked, they said when they left Heathrow, they were surrounded by military style police/ swat/ military (I can remember exactly what they said) with automatic weapons.

When they landed in New York, they felt naked. They had a hard time just finding security, more less security that was carrying something other than a walkie talkie.

They said, just wait and see, you American are headed for trouble.

And some of the engineers attitude was, which I'm sure that attitude was pretty universal was. "NEVER HAPPEN, not in this country. And this was in 1992!

As far as reports, the potus does not have to see the actual field reports, but he needs to be informed of the TRUE issues, and not from a message or skipe.

Hell, when he reads the briefing prior to the meeting, he can at least prepare himself to asked the right questions to implement measures at the actually meetings. And not wait till the next meeting, hell that can be another 48 hours.

Instead of and IMO to read the damn briefing and well, my job is done here.

No, I guess we don't learn from history. And a "I'm sorry, I'll do better my next term". "I gotta go now, tee time is at 5:00"

The presidency is no cake walk, There has to be at the very least some personal sacrifices. Or is that out the window with along the greatest generation.

I touched off on this earlier. but this is important, There is alot of intel, that has to be sifted through and accessed. More that you or I can imagine. It's the quality of these assessments than matter, B.O. is only human, its pretty hard to pencil it in between bashes and still have the quality that is required to make a credible assessment.

With world of today being flat, times are not the way they used to be.

And if the president feels he needs to have virtual meetings to give the impression that he's hip or making up for his other deficiencies.

Then order a pizza on-line for himself, his intel and security cabinet.

I don't want a president to be my friend, I want a president to lead and steer this country safely.

i.e., a competent president.

I wonder if this might become the Libyan equivalent of the Shays' rebellion. For Libyans sake I'd prefer that they follow a Shays like path instead of the French Reign of Terror or Mao's multiple terror campaigns. After any political revolution comes a dangerous period.

Please excuse the American centric examples. I suspect the search engine just recognized my location.

I'm with Del.

This falls under the heading of, "Be careful what you wish for".

I just hope we don't also see, "No good deed goes unpunished" and we stay out of there.

We've lost enough American (and other nationalities) lives already by being in places where we aren't wanted.

To be exact, the expulsion of the militias was because the people were afraid they were going to steal the revolution. Are they friendly to the US? Yes, but that was not what drove the action.

A general comment.

Things are never quite as they seem in this region. It is not a case of pro-US versus anti-US factions duking it out or even pro-Western versus anti-Western. However, many people try to frame in that light.

In that region you have two major religious sects; Sunni and Shiite. The divide between the two sects is about 70%/30% respectively. The two sects have been in conflict since about 630 AD.

Among the two sects, just like any religion is a sub-sect of extremists, which tends to be the core of the problem. Extremists and variation thereof tend to wield a considerable amount of power and control in the region and they are working hard to further cement their hold in the region as I write.

The youth unemployment rate in most of the Mid East is abysmal. This provides fertile grounds for recruitment of terrorist warriors to serve these extremist groups.

Given the right circumstances even Sunni and Shiite unite for common causes and the reverse is true depending on local tribal matters. It is often difficult to predict, as seen repeatedly in the region.

The current rise to power of the Muslim Brotherhood and its affiliates should not be underestimated. Affiliate groups and even terrorists will work together at times when it serves their interests. When a local The Arab Spring is less to do with people freeing themselves from bondage and more to do with the rise to power of the Muslim Brotherhood and its derivatives.

The self-immolation of Mohamed Bouazizi in Tunisia may have been a spontaneous event that launched the Arab Spring, but the stage was already set for the rise to power of extremist groups, waiting in the shadows. This was not as spontaneous as it seemed.

Libya is simply another case where external nations armed groups of people with no knowledge of what or who these people were. They may have brought down the regime in Libya, but the aftermath has been totally unpredictable - a role of the geopolitical dice, if you will.

The offending militia groups (including loyalists to the previous regime) have been told to disband, but they will only go underground where they will work from the shadows. It is unclear if the Libyan military will be able to maintain control and to what extend the various militant groups and extremist factions have infiltrated the Libyan military. The situation is highly volatile and subject to change at any instant.

What looks on the surface as surprising change of good fortune very likely has a much darker element lurking below the murky waters.

The Mid East has been in geopolitical turmoil for millenniums and the reality is that this unrest is as active as ever and shows no sign of abating, regardless as how media and other nations like to spin it.

AH, I wouldn't worry about it being disjointed. It was a very good summarization IMO.

It's a very very difficult issue to wrap your head around, unless you've lived in that part of the world for any given time, and then, it's a distinct possibility that one still won't get it all.....just look at what happens with CIA and DIA assessments! Although the field peeps might get it right, but by the time the field intelligence info filters through the numbnutz located back at Langley and the Puzzle Palace, all is seen through Rose colored glasses.....

It's easier to grasp the general idea, but another to get the specific and at the moment situation. A variation of the Heisenberg Uncertainty Principle in geopolitics.
