What "Integral" Type Means in Flow Meter Specs

10/01/2012 6:13 AM

I am wondering about the meaning of "integral type" while reading instrument specs for coriolis type flow meter. Can somebody help me?

Thanks

It could mean two things:

  • It could mean that the transmitter module is in the same housing as the flow meter.
  • It could mean that the instrument will totalise all the flow through it since the last time the reset button was pressed either manually or electronically, and display the total volume passed since then as well as the instantaneous rate of flow.

If in doubt, telephone the number at the foot of the spec page.

Wow, thanks

I understand now. Maybe, I need to examine the product brochure once again to find out which one it is

Indeed. Do pick up the phone to the technical helpline at the vendor's office too.

Welcome to CR4, BTW.

There are two types of these flow meters available in the market. "integral" Type Means that it is a self contained unit. The other one is a remote type.

The remote type indicates that the sensing element (paddle wheel, pitot tube, differential pressure orifice, Coriolis loop, etc.) is in one location (in or on a pipe), while the readout (meter dial or digital display) is in another location, such as a control room.

As Joshi said - integral means self contained. - i.e. the transmitter (4-20ma / Fieldbus, Profibus, whatever) is mounted directly on the flow meter body, not remotely mounted, which is another option.
