I'd put it right at 100%. If it was scheduled, you'd know about it and prevent it.

Optimism? From Lyn?? Are you feeling OK?

A lot of the operation schedule up time of any new machine will depend on the quality of the maintenance team. The next major factor will be how hard the machine is run. If you load the machine at only 50% of the rated load and your maintenance team is very familiar with the machine and its needs then Lyn's optimism is well founded. If your machine is expected to run at 95% of the rated load and your maintenance team have never seen this machine before... Good Luck

Thanks for all the contributions so far, I am developing a contract documentation for a client and the travel cost is quite high, we have competent maintenance technicians and we have an average of two scheduled preventive and component maintenance per month, what I have done now is to assume that there will be proper checks for and rectifications of faults during the scheduled preventive maintenance and make allowance for a minimum of two extra visits to the site per month over the two year period for emergencies/unschedule repair calls as we are expected to be fully responsible for this engines.

That would do it, then. Simply exclude the third and subsequent call-outs in each month from the contract. Though if there are that many call-outs, don't expect the Client to want to keep the contract running for too long. How about keeping a Maintenance Tech on-site full-time instead?
