Production Part Aproval Process

04/04/2013 2:42 PM

When performing a PPAP,( Process flow)( PFMEA)(Control plan), do I have to address each dimension on the drawing or only the critical characteristics?

Thank you

You will perform inspection according the the inspection plan.

Since we do not have a copy of that plan nor ANY IDEA at all what you are inspecting, we cannot tell you how to do your job.

I respectfully suggest that you should seek a job for which you are qualified.

Perhaps I have mistaken this site with one that wants to help people who have a desire to learn. Quite Rude!

Please feel free to help the poor person out, if you can understand what it is that they want.

That will do them more good than chastising me for speaking the truth.

This is your second post here. You have no business telling other people how to conduct themselves when you've just started here, yourself.

Many here, including me, help numerous people every day, but we get tired of answering questions from people who have no grasp of the problem at hand and don't care to try to find the information themselves.

I'd suggest you try diligently to help everyone who comes here, and you will soon see what the "Anons" really want.

If you are tired of answering questions you consider incomplete, or less intelligent, then do not respond. It is better then being rude to people. Just starting here does not mean that I do not have the right to address someone who comments to me in such a manner.

I'd think that the inspection plan would be in, or referenced in, the quality plan.

Have no idea what the criteria is, there is one of four answers here.

Putting it simple:

  1. Yes
  2. No
  3. Maybe
  4. Depends

And until we have an understanding what that criteria is, there really is no answer.

I am not sure what process or quality standard(s) you are working to but the information should be in there.

A quick internet search of "PPAP" and "PFMEA" indicated this appears to be for the automotive industry supply chain quality system, so consult the internet, find the required standards, buy them, read them and conform to the requirements or alternatively consult the automotive manufacturer directly for advice (documentation if you are lucky, list of standards you will need to purchase and comply with if you are not).

Failure to comply or be able to produce copies of the required standards and answer questions relating to their content will result in.........unpleasentness when you are eventually audited.

Re: Production Part Aproval Process

This is an automotive Level 3 PPAP. I have done just one before(successful). My only question is regarding the PFMEA, I know I have to address each process. I am not sure of how many dimensions. My prior PPAP had only 5 and they were all called out as critical so I addressed each one. This time I have 31 dimensions only 3 critical. Am I required to address all 31 or only the critical? I could not find an answer on the numerous sites I've visited, or on the customers paperwork.

Thanks

Oh this is your question!

If it were me I would check the available documentation and the relevant standards as the answer should be in there (somewhere).

Not being an automotive OEM I don't know the answer to this. Perhaps a call to the customer's engineering department is in order for clarification. It may be the simplest way.
