LED Lights for Stadium Flood Lighting

Dear all,

kindly suggest the reason behind - why LED lights are not used for flood lighting in cricket or football stadiums. Is their any stadium where they are being used across the world??

They are power saving as compared to Metal halide or Mercury vapour lamps.

Is their high cost the deterrent factor or any other technical reason pl.

Kindly suggest.

Yours still has an off switch?

I turned mine to high, ripped knob off then GB welded the stub in place.

My high is closer to most peoples off.

The Marines say they do more by 6 AM than most people do all day. I however aim to do less all day than most people do by 6 AM!

How about LEP (Light Emitting Plasma)? Plasma is overtaking LED on the big scale installations - from what I just read. The new small, high efficiency source needs specialist RF driver (puck) but sounds like a better bet than LEDs see: Straylight, Luxim, Ceravision and Reduser forum.

They all pale in comparison to synchrotron lighting. So what. There are so many unknowns in this question of LED versus anything else in stadium lighting that it makes me laugh how many here wish to add their "expertise".

Presumably because the business-as-usual mentality has not been addressed by a Sales Engineer for the stadium LED floodlight manufacturer. Now, there's an opportunity...

LEDs are still not competitive for very high brightness applications. LEDs lose brightness at high temperatures. They are improving all the time but they are not the answer for everything.

I think the answer has more to do with economics than capability. How many flashlights are sold compared to the number of stadium flood lights? If factory production is high, why would an owner invest in R&D for another product? In South Fla, we are only starting to see LED technology become available for household lighting in affordable and usable configurations. As the consumer demands a product, manufacturers will build it. But I do not think that there is sufficient demand for that level of efficiency in ultra high lighting systems. JMHO.
