Help Needed With SL 100 Transistor.

05/29/2013 6:36 AM

Hi all

I'm from Mossel Bay in South Africa and I need a SL 100 transistor. It is a general purpose, medium power NPN transistor. It is mostly used as a switch in a common emitter configuration. I need it for a switch in a 9V siren circuit I want to build, but all the suppliers I phoned do not know the part no. " SL 100 ". Is there another part no. that I can use for this specific transistor or could someone suggest another type of transistor that I can use.

Thank you

I found the SL100 data here. I think a 2N2222A would work just fine. You can find them here.

SCOT should certainly replace his SL100 with a metal part, and the die used in the 2n2222 should be fine (the 2n2222 is the older metal version of the popular plastic 2n4401, which uses the same die).

But the 2n2222 comes in the small TO-18 metal package (right), whereas the SL100 is specified and shown in a larger TO-39 package (left above), similar to the old TO-5 package. So a better choice would be a 2n2219, $1.66 at DigiKey, 23k in stock, which has the same die mounted in the proper larger TO-39 package. This package can dissipate more heat, and there are also small clip-on heatsinks that are often used.

Here's DigiKey's 2n2219 photo (left).

Use Google & type in sl100 transistor equivalent & you get lots of help

it would have been much quicker & easier than posting here

If you give the voltage and current to be switched, and the voltage or current driving the transistor, I am sure, there are plenty of modern replacements.

Also check your local suppliers for the common (around here) 2N4401.

http://inst.eecs.berkeley.edu/~ee105/fa07/labs/2N4401.pdf

Specs similar to SL100. Both 2N2222 and 2N4401 could work for your project.

Good luck!

Hi,

This is the first transistor i tiuched and seen. You can use any general purpose NPN transistor in its place. 2222 or 2N3904 or 2N657.

Regards

I have a safety deposit box in S.A. with millions of dollars worth of SL100 transistors, but I need a person to open it and sell them...convert the money to gold, then send me the gold.

Its good monies from lawyers to mine.

Sorry, couldn't resist.
