Printing Blank Pages!

06/10/2013 3:35 PM

For years, regardless of computer, printer type and operating system I have the same old problem! That is that e-mails and some webpages may or may not print out what you see on the screen. Using Yahoo e-mail, the "Print" function never does. Usually, you just get a heading and nothing else. Sometimes I get around this by highlighting the area to be printed and clicking on "selection" in print command. Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't. At it's worst you land up your printer spitting multiple blank pages. I have on occasion resorted to copy/paste it into WORD and print from there. Why on earth is it so damned difficult? As for the "Prnt Scrn" function - it has never done anything! What is it's purpose? Windows has been out for about 30 years -still full of mysteries.

Your frustration is shared by many. Easiest "universal" tip I can give is to indeed use the "Print Screen" button. By pressing this, your computer takes a snapshot picture of whatever is on the screen in front of you and puts it on the clipboard.

Once you do this, simply go to Word or whatever can handle pictures and hit "Ctrl + V". Voila!, your monitor picture appears in front of you as a picture you can manipulate or do whatever you want.

Hope this helps.

The "Prnt Scrn" button prints to the copy buffer file in memory. You need to then open up a picture editor (paint, word, etc) and then use the "paste" function to paste the screen dump image into said picture editor before you can print the screen dump.

I've used the 'Print Screen' feature countless numbers of times. As Average Joe points out, it captures a bitmap image of whatever is on your screen.

Once I hit Print Screen (thus copying the image to the clipboard) I usually go to the Windows 'Paint' accessory and hit 'paste'. Then I trim the image down to just the part I want to save and store that image either as a bitmap (.bmp) or .jpg picture file.

They are not really blank.

Please remit those sheets to the NSA for analysis and decrypting of the invisible print.

Which web browser are you using? Sometimes that makes a difference.

If you can, choose Print Preview from your browser's file menu. If you see extra pages at the end of the document you can choose to print a page range instead of the whole thing. Just exclude the page numbers of the blank ones.

For pages in a frames type layout, printing a selection is the best way to go. Sometimes they will have a printer icon you can click on instead of CTRL+P or File>Print.

I am currently using I.E. 9, but have had the same problems for many years.

- Yes, I do that mostly now and often find nothing there, so abandon that route. I just wonder why, with the internet, computers and operating systems, being "mature technology" we have to go through this silly rigmarole.

All being said already about the Print Screen function.

You can also get a screen capture tool which allows you to choose what you want from the screen. Screenhunter is one of them.

Windows 7 comes with a "Snipping Tool" with the same function.

A lot of homepages have a print button somewhere. It requires to have Java script running and probably a rudimentary PDF version. The PDF is necessary when the print version is done in PDF. It works fine most of the time and I havent had any problems lately with this.

Some web pages are copy protected, I think the rest of your problems are probably related to mixing file types...I never use the print file option from the browser....just select, copy, paste... this creates a new file in whatever you copy to......for everything else I use print screen option....Just need to be aware that text files and picture files don't print together in some program formats....

basically it's the old 'complicate to the point of confusion' scenario.
What you need is a key on the keyboard big enough to write 'copy screen to clipboard/buffer' on it.
Whereas in the old days <sigh> it did what it said on the key.

Don't get me on the PAUSE/BREAK key.
Oh, and now we have cr4p that won't even stop when you hit ctrl alt del ... whatever happened to priority interrupts? <sigh.. I must be getting old>

Hardly! I received a quotation yesterday which I am unable to print. Getting 40-60 e-mails per day would ensure that it will be "out of sight, out of mind" within 24 hours - so why not print it out??? Makes sense to me.

Well in that case why not just forward your e-mails to the copying service center of your preference,,,,done deal....

Maybe you need to try the fine adjustment tool....

Try highlighting what you want to print then put the cursor on the highlighted area, right click and select Print.

I use a little programme called CaptureWiz, you can window any screen area & print it or save as bitmap, jpeg, gif or png. Will also capture video & audio, with the video you can include cursor movements so you can make a video showing how some part of a programme works. If you want to copy something which scrolls off of the screen it has an auto scroll feature which will capture everything on the page.

"regardless of computer, printer type and operating system"

Interesting. I used to have similar problems printing through Windoze+IE+Outlook versions. IE rendering of HTML "frames" may have contributed to some of the unexpected results.

Changed to Linux+Firefox+Evolution in 2008. After the change I have had "0" printer issues on netbooks, laptops, desktops, workstations, and rack-servers with several inkjets and laser printers over direct and networked connections.

Never had a yahoo account so cannot verify if there are printing problems specific to yahoo mail.

PrintScrn key seems to work "better" under Linux. It grabs the current screen AND calls up a dialog box asking what to do with the screen-shot image. Last time I used Windoze, PrintScrn did copy the current screen image to the paste buffer but the OS did not provide any feedback of that event.

Well, back in the 70's and 80's Print Screen used to do just that...

...on a dot matrix printer

...with no graphics

Remember those days?

Your screen nowadays is rendered as a graphical representation of the video buffer...way beyond unprintable ASCII characters.

You can program a hot-key if you really want to print the screen in a standardized format.
