DM Water Heating

07/22/2013 3:27 AM

Can I use LP steam before desuperheating which is the extraction of our 14.5MW turbine(i/l hp steam pressure 62 kg/cm2) to heat the dm water of a 90tph afbc boiler? If it can what type of equipment I to use for heat exchanging..please specify

Parameters:

lp steam: pressure : 4.5 kg/cm2

temperature: 201(before desuperheating)

avg flow : 90 to 110 tph

dm water pressure : 6.5 kg/cm2

temperature : 65 degC(dearator i/l)

average flow : 70 to 80 tph

If the steam is clean, then a simple sparge pipe into the boiler hotwell may be all that is needed, although why the equipment is not provided already is a bit curious, as is the need to use steam to heat water to make steam; if the second boiler is of lower pressure than the first, then a pressure regulating valve between the HP and LP systems is all that is needed.

If additional equipment is needed then compact plate heat exchangers are readily available and an internet search will reveal local suppliers.

It sounds as though an experienced Utilities Engineer is needed for a short period to effect the design.

Look at ways of maximising the return and re-use of steam condensate from the downstream users, as this will considerably enhance the economics of the operation and payback from investment in installed equipment is usually short.

Dear Mr.srik231,

YES. You can heat the DM Water. You have to use a Tubular Heater of Proper Design.

We are using the Blow-Down Water from the Boiler at 282 Deg.C, for heating the Condensate from 46 Deg.C as well as DM Water from 32 Deg.C and the Boiler Capacity is 90Tonnes and Power Turbine is 17.5 MW. A tubular type Heat exchanger is used.

Dear Mr. srik231,

You can use a tubular heat exchanger, for heating the DM water, by the bled steam. Care to be taken - for the Temp. of the out-let steam, from the heat exchanger for further use. If the temp. of the steam falls below the required level - then process side problem may arise.
