FAA to Town: Please Don’t Shoot Down Drones

07/22/2013 8:30 PM

Oh this brought a smile to my face.

The Federal Aviation Administration felt the need to issue a statement Friday asking the general public not to shoot at drones flying over head as a small Colorado town is considering an ordinance urging townsfolk to shoot down unmanned aerial vehicles.

......

Officials from Deer Trail, Colo., are thinking about issuing $25 hunting licenses to shoot down drones. The town would even go further and award $100 to someone with a license who could provide proof that he shot down the drone.

........

Phillip Steel of Deer Trail wrote the proposal and received 28 signatures on his petition. He said the hunters would target small civilian drones in fear the government was collecting surveillance on Deer Trail citizens.

There probably isn't anybody under the age of 8 that doesn't have a deer rifle or a hand gun in "Deer Trail, CO.

This may become a UAV no-fly zone.

Granted I don't hunt other than to get rid of nuisance animals but given a opportunity to get a licence to shoot down surveillance drones I would be all too happy to get a licence!

However I suspect that in most cases they would be flying at what would be the outer limits of what a decent hunting rifle could reach so I suppose I would have to go and borrow some heavier for power from a buddy of mine.

I think anything that comes stock with a belt feed that fires ammunition by the case should work well enough!

I don't recall what he called it or what it shoots but it will mow a well defined path in a beet field a half a mile out in about 5 seconds!

That looks to be a .30 caliber Browning MG.....

It'll do the job, but a M2 (Ma Deuce) Browning Machine Gun, chambered in .50 Cal. would be more effective. Just saying....

Within the last couple of months Princeton University hired an aerial photography company to take photos with a drone. Their stated purpose was to get photos of the university and the surrounding areas for land use and publicity. It took several days to complete. When it was finished numerous residents of the Town of Princeton objected to it based on invasion of privacy. After that the university said it was a one time event, the pictures would be solely their property and would not be released to anyone. They also stated they would not be doing it in the future.

It was done while the temperature was still cold enough to keep the trees from having leaves on them for greater clarity. Also, I think the nearest nudist camp is at least 50 miles away from there.

Good Luck, Old Salt

I wonder if there's an Annual "Bag Limit" with the Drone license? BRahahhahahaha!!!!!!

I'll travel out to CO with my Savage 110C .30-06 deer rifle just to have a chance to nail a drone.....

Like hunting deer with an automatic rifle, a Stinger missile would just plain take the sport out of it and not leave you with much of a trophy in the end.

I'd be sure to aim my FPV r/c plane right at that dude's head if he missed with the first shot...just to give 'em reload and zero-point training.

We cannot even tell the difference between snack-carrying children and real criminals in this country. ...sure,why not? ...it makes sense!

About points on shot placement and unstable projectile (self destructs on impact) worthiness. Just saying.....
