CR4 System Buggy Again.

07/24/2013 12:12 AM

I keep having problem with posting here the last few days.

May times when I make a post then go to submit it system hangs for several minutes before either submitting it or it drops it completely and gives me this (Could not process form: The system was unable to process this form.) and then I can not back page and retry again. Everything gets lost that I just typed.

It's a real PITA when I spend half an hour or better making a reply post with links and the like to defend my views then have the system drop it on the way to posting and not let me recover it and try again or at least copy it and repost it on a fresh login attempt.

Anyone else getting similar issues?

Yup, happens to me too. I copypasta what I've written to a .doc file just in case. There appears to be no rhyme or reason to it. It either does or does not allow the posting..

Maybe the "system" is making an editorial comment.

Try putting more gas in the tank before starting.

Haven't had that problem yet, probably an NSA copy-code problem

Same here. I lost a good APPLE post on the tomato thread.

But my backspace button works now if I need to try to repost.

I write in word now and repost as often as necessary.

A small change was made to the masthead and that seems to have caused the problem. There's nothing wrong with the site but sometimes it's buggy like this after a change is made. If you give it a hard refresh (CTRL+R) then you should be fine.

When you see the "unable to process this form error":

  1. Hit the back button or backspace on your browser
  2. Copy your post
  3. Hard refresh (CTRL R)
  4. Go to where you want to post and paste

Should work!

I've had the same problem and it's been happening on-and-off for a few weeks. I've noticed, too, that the icons sometimes show up with complete randomness - the wrong icons in the wrong places - at different times when I visit this site.

There's nothing wrong with the site but sometimes it's buggy like this after a change is made -- seems a bit oxymoronic, don't you think?

I mean nothing is really broken; you can post, but for some reason it gets stuck like that. True, it is annoying, but it does work if you refresh. I'm not a programmer so I can't figure it out and fix it.

We also experience slowdowns and bugs when other sites are crawling CR4. Not much we can do about that with our current setup.

It's all about taking the good with the bad.

Spot on.

I've only seen this on the PM system, and it seems to happen more if I go off mid-post to fry an egg or whatever. Using <edit/copy> depending on o/s, then backspacing and hitting 'reply/paste' again seems to work.

The other quirk I get is 'javascript=0'. Yep, I keep java up to date, but for some reason that one happens now and again.

As long as we're in complaint mode; I've had the same problem while posting, but just copying it seems to work and then pasting later in a new response box. It's like it's getting timed out while writing a resonse to a post.

My question is:

Does anyone actually use those FB, twitter, G feeds?

Sometimes it takes forever for a page to load, and it seems like it's because I'm waiting for those links to finish loading.

Social media buttons/links are fairly common on websites these days. I don't think they're slowing things down that much. Also, the text content appears first, so you should still be able to read as usual without waiting for the social media buttons to load. CR4 is slow when it's hit by crawlers and that can make it take up to a minute or more to load a page.

"Social media buttons/links are fairly common on websites these days."

I'm not exactly complaining about a free lunch, but that explains it how? Kickback on search engine ratings probably explains it, but you can add me to the list of people who dislike it. It's a longer and different topic, but the Facebook button is especially insidious.

Fret not, it will not deter me.

The buttons are an easy way for people to share stuff that they like. Rather than opening up Twitter and composing a tweet, you can do so right from the button.

Sharing is caring. Social media is a great way for new users to find us. Without active users there is no conversation, no community, no site.

Re: CR4 System Buggy Again.

I might hit one of those buttons by mistake.

Honestly, I have no idea what happens if I hit those buttons, much less where I would find the result. Probably works OK for those up to speed on social media. I'm trying to think of good reasons not to just hit the button and see what happens - in almost any other scenario I'd be pressing the buttons I shouldn't (that 'warranty void if opened' stuff).

No joke, I have never read a tweet and wouldn't even know where to find one. I could maybe find out, but simply don't get the point.

Put me down for hating those buttons too!

Far too often when my cursor drifts over one it opens its drop down whatever then just hangs there for a few minutes not letting me do anything or blocking what I want to read.

BTW the hard refresh does not always fix the first issue I mentioned. Most of the time it just dumps everything and clears my back buttons from working.

Put me down for hating those buttons three!

I can assure you that anyone that uses those sites will be more than happy to actually click on the links; without it continually popping up in the faces of those who don't use those sites!

It reminds me of a hyperactive black lab puppy. I don't even have to be near it, and the stupid thing pops up in the middle of the screen. And worse, half the time it refuses to go away.

It's enough to piss-off the good humor pope!

Off rant

Since we are complaining about site related things most people don't like can we get rid of the anonymous poster function now?

I figure if this question gets asked in every CR4 feedback thread statistically it will eventually add up to be a big enough value to justify its being implemented.

Yes, no anons, and a "kill button".

How many time has someone said, "thanks for the help, I've got my answer", only to have 20 more clowns keep the thread alive after they've gone.

The person who starts the thread should be able to close it.

And I've got this pain behind my right eye. Can you do anything for that?

There is something wrong with new system. Earlier I had complained about spelling check ABC nor working and now this problem. Admn. should ask the system designer to check up whole working of system and make it good for normal working.

Me too. Same problems with posting and spell check.

On the subject of changes: It would be nice if: (1) a poster had the ability to withdraw a post within the first 15 minutes and (2) a poster had the ability to modify the post after the first 15 minutes perhaps using cross out text and a different font or color.

Glad it isn't "just me"...

... been seeing THIS (above) all-too-frequently lately, as well as (when using Internet Explorer) the 'Error Message' that the "Form could not be processed".

Guessed that *somebody* decided we all needed a good 'challenge'...

Doh! Just got yet ANOTHER error trying to post THIS (above)... along-with noticing the message "javascript: void(0)" in lower-left corner, I got THIS (below):

Re: CR4 System Buggy Again.

This is the process I use:

1) compose your submissions in "Word". 2) Spell-check in that program making all necessary corrections. 3) Highlight the completed work in "Word" and drag it over to a blank message reply area for the Reply to Forum Thread . Your reply and/or the original posting will then have been composed, spell checked and placed in the correct area for it to be then reviewed and submitted.

When you drag it from word to the new reply it will disappear in word. Hit the "back one step" button in word (the one with the counter-clockwise arrow) and the text will appear. Now you have it in the reply and word. Save the word text to anything you want so now if you have any other bad experiences again and wipe out the new reply you have it in word. This avoids having to retype and/or compose the new reply.

If you prefer to compose it in the new reply you can enter it into the new reply portion, review the NR, submit the NR and if it knocks you out go back to the review section. Highlight all of the NR, copy it, go over to a new word document and paste it in there. From there on you handle as described above.

This will work, its how this one was done. I got the "can not handle now" message then followed the steps as described above. A little lengthy but they are simple and understandable steps. I avoided having to re-enter this with my spastic keyboarding. Much the time saver. Besides Word has a better spell checker than the CR4 does.

For what it worth, I suspect it is dependent on the length of time from when you open up the FR till when you go to edit or review the NR. Doesn't happen on short time submissions but always happens on longer ones.

Good Luck, Old Salt

One of the most annoying form fillings (for me) is when Amazon (and others) request an appraisal on your recent purchase.

You write something good, e.g. Great, it was cheap, did the job, love it! etc... and then..... it says " another 13 words are required." !!!! (before they let you go.) WHY!
