The Forty Seven Story Walkup

08/09/2013 5:26 PM

I wonder why the engineers on this didn't tell the architect(s). I think I know why, they don't like to be told anything. I would have called to say, "what the [expletive deleted] are you up to?".

Your 'SkyJacker' sales rep must have a h#ll of a time getting on board an airplane.

So why did the people constructing the place not say anything about where the elevators are?

Job security. If they said something, the job would have stopped.

But hey....at least the rent is cheap.

The penthouse is renting for $150 a month. Street level is commanding $12K a month.

Union motto: If you see something completely screwed up....don't say a freakin' word.

We can build it for $20k.....

We could put a large catcher net here on each floor.....

This was the design for the gnomish elevator in Dragonlance Chronicles "Dragons of Winter Night". Wonderful exchange over the operation (paraphrased here):

"The catapult launches you up just past the floor you want to go to. At the top of your ascent, the net will deploy under you to catch you."
"And if the net doesn't deploy in time?"
"Ah. Then the net on the next floor down will deploy."
"And if none of the nets deploy in time?"
"Then a net will release a load of sponges onto the bottom floor."
"Ah. And the sponges cushion the fall."
"No, but they do help with the cleanup."

There's never enough time to do it right the first time, but there's always enough time to do it over.

My favorite, from the time of pencils and T-squares and velum, "Don't draw more in the morning than you can erase in the afternoon.

What they should do is sell a coffee shop/tapas bar franchise every 5th floor and sell it as a feature/virtue which creates that village in the sky feel that Corbusier was banging on about.
Or rent 'em as Fitness Flats For Fat F*****s Kris made me say that!

Where are the marketting wonks when you really could use 'em?

Gotta be feasible to knock a hole down through it and build a lift. Or stick one on the outside.

There has to be more to this story that we haven't heard. I find it inconceivable that something as basic as an elevator for a high rise would go un-noticed.

There is a fair amount of white elephants in Spain right now. Some 5 useless airports (that I can recall right now) and an incredible amount of empty "poligonos industriales" (industrial estate) y "naves" (industrial sheds).

Many of them build on taxpayer´s account, without the faintest hope to get ROI in the next 25 years. At least. For some of them never.

This is what happens when politicians take decisions without a single technical argument.

As per the Intempo building, It seems that the girl had many boyfriends, but none married her. I would rather have the complete story before comment about it.

I know a guy with 5 broken crane booms you could probably cobble a lifting device out of, they're going cheap

When I was building 15 story condos, it was always quicker to use the stairs than wait on the elevator to stop at every floor. Wore out two pairs of shoes in one year tho!
