Forty-Two Story Building, No Elevators - Hoax

08/13/2013 9:37 AM

Turns out that story about the 42-story building in Spain where they 'forgot' to install elevators, is just a hoax. I know you'll all be surprised (shocked! I'm shocked!) that those bozos over at Gizmodo were inadvertently responsible for starting this hoax.

"The hoax seems to come from a bad translation by Gizmodo of a somewhat confusing article in the Spanish daily El País..."

What's the difference between no working elevators and no elevators?

Originally designed for 20 stories. When redesigned for 47 stories either the additional space needed for the larger equipment was over looked or poorly addressed. During construction one of the elevators fell 15 stories injuring some the workers. So I don't think anyone want to ride them anyway.

It's been such a banking nightmare wonder what other corners were cut.

Well, if it isn't a hoax, they may find an investor for this building named Bruce Wayne.

To the Bat pole Robin!

I think it says a lot about the news media these days. Everyone just reprinting what they have heard elsewhere without any independent verification.

I believe the number of news sources has increased dramatically over the past twenty years while the number of actual reporters has declined. (I don't have any numbers to back this up. It is just my opinion).

IMO, I do not think this is true what I believe what is happening is the quality of the reporter has declined to an amateuristic level.

I think you are right. I should have said "trained journalists" instead of reporters.

My wife gets tired of me asking, after a "news" story with too many "could","may", etc in it, are they reporting the news or selling soap? -- JHF

Abraham Lincoln once said, 'If it's on the internet, it's gotta be true.'

You're right, the news readers on the TV just read the stuff off the internet the same way that I do, I suppose for people who can't do it for themselves. The difference is that they decide what to read instead of me, which generally reflects their political ideology. I'm happier with my own biases rather than theirs.

And guess what? When you go to see your doctor for an ailment, he does the same for a prognosis with Google.

When you call an emergency number about a medical emergency, the person on the phone has a card deck and asks you questions. You say yes or no determines the next card they read off of. Basically the same thing. You're not talking to a medical expert, just somebody with a Rolodex in front of them.

Re: Forty-Two story building, no elevators - Hoax

this is going way off topic........... but in the jest of the conversation.

Back in the 90's I was talking to a rather young attorney which was part of an army of attorney's that won a large case against Ford.

He was saying for what an attorney does, that 98% of what they do is file documents (with the courts and such) and that someone could and should write a program that would do this.

With about 2% probably involves to actually going and argue a case in court or other types of litigation.

Speaking of litigation, I was eating in a restaurant, downtown where our banking and attorneys are located, and I overheard a discussion between two attorney's on a divorce or something, It was nothing more than a wink and a handshake that consist of, well our last trial, I let you have the upper hand, this time it's my turn.

Yes, I know.

I'm for the death penalty, however since I know that kind of wheeling and dealing goes on between Prosecutors and Defense attorneys, I'm against it for that reason. The justice system is not reliable nor credible enough to be allowed that kind of responsibility anymore. If they ever really were.
