Coal does not normally need a binder. It comes in lump size to pea size, not a briquette size. Any attempt to use a binder would be counter productive to the adverse operation of mechanical or thermal separation of the appropriately sized particles of coal. This is of greater importance if a fluidized bed is used instead of banked on a grated bed.

If further information is necessary contact the MSHA in Arlington, VA.

Good Luck, Old Salt
