Water effect? Is this a new physical principle?

actually it will be a form of illusion. it is going to be a part of exhibit where a common man would look into different coloured water in a single column. for column i will be using acrylic tube as it is light and non breakable

Well, water doesn't have any colour unless it is impure. So what are the impurities please, and why wouldn't they mix?

Immiscibile liquids of different colors. Why only common man?

Not sure exactly what you want to do, but if you etched a portion of the back side of the acrylic tube you could project an endless variety of colors and shapes onto the tube using a laser projector driven by a laptop computer. The light would diffuse through the etched surface and be seen by anyone looking at the acrylic tube. - However, the water will be 'invisible' unless you add a small amount of material to make it look slightly cloudy, like a small amount of water-soluble white paint.

"Lava lamp" manufacturers might be able to help.

We know that the light penetrance decreases as we go in deeper water. as a result, the long radiations can not go deep. so if we can see the colour in deep water, the colour of the water will change. i would like to show this to everyone. lava lamp principle may not be applicable here. again using density gradient may be an answer as shown in the fig but does that show this colour gradation , as seen in water columns?i hope now i can explain the problem.

Explain it? It looks like it is solved.

Subhasankar-

Like many others on this forum I am not familiar with the type of phenomena you are describing as "the water effect". Can you provides any additional information?

The only water effect I am familiar with and could describe to you is one that also contains some Ethyl Hydroxide or Methyl Carbinol. When Ethyl Hydroxide of a certain variety is placed within Di-Hydrogen Oxide it usually has a color of a light clear brown or yellow liquid. This colored mixture can accommodate liquid or solid Di-hydrogen Oxide. The common names of this phenomena are: scotch on the rocks; bourbon and branch water; Dewars and water; Rebel Yell and water; and many others.

Additional information might give you an answer closer to your specific question.
