GPS Problem

10/24/2013 3:08 AM

I have a Nav N Go iGO8 GPS, battery is charged, screen lights up as usual but can not get it to respond to touch commands. On computer all files appear OK. Can anybody help.

Yep. The shop where it was purchased can help, especially if it is still under warranty. Take it back there, and talk to anybody there.

Just a thought: Some touch technologies (the older version of capacitive, e.g.) require touch with your fingers; they don't worked with gloved hands.

Touch panels are fairly simple devices, so any problem is usually due to a loose or broken connector, or a software glitch.

It might be a memory issue, OS issue, or any number of things.....What device are you using, what OS, what's the location, what version...???

don't know about yours, but some/all? Garmins have a reset button, sometimes hidden behind the faceplate.

Could be ESD damage. Especially now that the temperature is dropping.

If it's under warranty get it serviced, if it's a few years old, scrap it. Try a reset if you can find the reset pin hole typically on the back side. For $40 someone is selling one on eBay right now used but excellent condition.

Just a guess...

If certain part or section of the touch screen is already dented or depressed, that depression may be interpreted as a "touch", an interruption on a certain point in the "x and y" axis of the pre-mapped screen. If this is the case, the unit may not accept any command until that "depression", "screen dent", or "interruption" is cleared!

Good luck!

I have a hobby whereby I buy defective GPS units off ebay and fix and resell them, only Tom Toms though.....Tom Toms can suffer the same error.

It is possible that you have something electronically "hung" and the only way I know how to really clear it is to open it up and un-clip/disconnect the battery, operate all buttons and let it sit somewhere for 24 hours before clipping the battery back on.

Some Tom Toms will do (almost) the same if you power them on and hold the power button for several minutes. I have never had any luck with this "trick" though!!

My version has no 100% guarantee but works often where the (any) electronic unit experienced low voltage.....as long as the unit is otherwise OK....

I have fixed GPSs and calculators, plus various other pieces of normal electronics in this way.....I have also posted this on CR4 before....

Give it a try!
