Scientific Calculator On-line

02/17/2014 8:26 AM

I wonder if any members can advise me on the best on-line scientific calculator? My calculations involve trig requiring sinh and cosh. Alas, not being in the first flush of youth, my trig knowledge is, to say the least, quite rusty, so a clear and simple format is required. I did find [via a search engine] the web2.0calc which shows the formula as if on paper as opposed to a straight line. Are there other calculators where, due to my lost mathematical knowledge, can confirm my enumerations?

Er, how about Excel? Please qualify and quantify <...best...>.

Yes, I've used Excel, but find the web2.0calc easier to input. Also, I see the whole of the formula laid out in an easily read format. All the other calculators I've found were quite basic - hence my crie de coeur.

I find Mathcad indispensible, but it's rather more than just a calculator. Formulas are displayed as you would write them, which is an advantage over XL and sounds like what you're looking for. Though in other respects XL is better.

Units can be used with Mathcad, useful and helps avoid mistakes. Also does numerical integration and symbolic calculations among other things.

You could simply try searching Google for 'Scientific Calculator'…

The first one that comes up looks pretty good.

If I wasn't feeling so chipper today I would have tortured you with THIS.

That could well be the web2.0calc which I have used. If I could find another similar unit I would be more than happy. I've searched three engines, but very few are as comprehensive as that mentioned. I live in hope that someone will come to my aid.

That's not what is happening. All individuals are doing is using search engines to find them. Anyone could do that.

Just to clarify, the Windows calculator is in the "Accessories" folder in the Start Menu. If it comes up as a simple arithmetic calculator, go to the "View" menu and click on "scientific."

This may seem obvious to many out there, but as someone who spent my entire post-divorce house buy-out settlement on grad school tuition in philosophy (and still ended up in debt), I have a long history of stupid mistakes, and I have lots of sympathy for others who might not grasp the "obvious."

Thanks for info. Yes, I tried the W calculator, but it didn't seem to work for me. At least we share a common problem with stupid mistakes. Mine was/is to be attempting complex problems with [as my son says] one foot in the grave.

Doesn't your computer's OS have a built in calculator? Win XP does, and it includes the hyperbolic trig functions:

Yes, I have tried the W scientific calculator, but it rather failed me. I did, however, discover meta-calculator.com which, as they say, ticks all the boxes.

Windows 8 has a great calculator which should cover everything you need, plus it has a great conversion section on it also.

Gosh, that takes me back. I used one in my early days long before these electronic gismos came along. Thanks for a trip down memory lane.
