Travelaters Versus Escalators

02/17/2014 11:32 PM

ThX for the reply about less steep, less load, less moving parts, and hence more reliabilty for the travelator.

What is the maximum steep a travelator can bear without compromising efficiency and durability? Assuming there is unlimited space it can travel to lift 4000 users every day up 3.4 meters to a different floor level.

THX in advance.

This brings up a favorite story. There is a agility test to become a firefighter. Yet every fire-station built must have an elevator to allow access to the sleeping quarters on the second floor.

The concepts in this question are not closely related to one another, and hence are nearly meaningless.

If steep was slope then I'd guess it would depend on how hard an old lady can hang onto the moving rail without falling backwards????????????

How to design a problem!

A fantastic eye opener for the design engineer in question.

PSST! Do not mention possible missuse of the steep slope, lets call it "Down Dressing".

The reliability of the escalator moves very quickly into the background!

The maximum slope to be found at any railway station in the UK is limited to 1 in 8, from the perspective of grip and comfort to the foot. Does that help?
