Sort of Rigid Ribbon Cable

02/19/2014 10:31 AM

I've seen the stuff in various lengths the past but can't find it now.

What I want is like 6 lengths of tinned copper wire about 2" long. Laid parallel 0.1" apart sandwiched between two layers of paper/tape/whatever. There should be enough wire sticking out from the tape either end to go through a printed board and be soldered.
If I recall correctly it was rather pricey, and available in different lengths and numbers of conductors. But maybe there is something better and cheaper now?
If all else fails I'll make jig so wire can be zig zagged between some pins, taped and then cut.
It should be a huge cost saving over two inches of ribbon cable and a connector each end plus sockets on the two boards.

Any one got any leads? (tee hee, see what I did there?)
Everything these days is ultra miniature surface mount cr4p or maybe I'm just gettin' old?

That sort of thing is hard to find when you don't know what the manufacturer has called 'em.
You were all damn quick too. I shall PM you all some tea and cakes

There used to be a time when one could wander through a catalogue and even if the name of the part was absent, find what was wanted from the pictures alongside the item.

With on-line catalogues driven by keywords, that facility is receding. Such a pity. And it's labelled "progress" (rhetorical question - NNTR)?

Don't you NNTR me (paws on hips then wagging finger)

It's all about cost saving. Can't beat the old catalogue.
Don't start me on the search engines on some of those sites, you type in something V specific and get drivel out. You can see the search engine is just off the peg and not tuned for the application. grrr ftzzzz hisss.
Impossible to find those thingies if you don't have the trade name, part number or manufacturer.
I tried all sorts of searches and got nowhere... even "thingies" didn't work

DigiKey has the best online catalog, you DONT have to know part numbers or manufacturers name etc.
