Find a distributor of cooling towers in your area, its best to talk to them.

basically no. you need to hit specific CFM rates to move heat, evaporation alone wont move enough heat, you'll trip on high overload

Yes, natural draft cooling towers are carefully shaped to provide the necessary air flow given the ambient and water flow conditions. You might find this animation interesting.

Dear Mr.Kokate,

The answer for your question is NO. But circular shape for the air flow at the fan is preferred as there will not be any stanation /slow movement of air relativelu.

OP clearly stated "natural draft" meaning no fans, a wide bottom for large quantities of cool air, a venturi section to accelerate the now warmer less dense air, and a slightly wider top to provide an expansion zone to the open atmosphere.The ratios of the three diameters relative to the height are key parameters in the design of such cooling towers.
