Coherent CO2 Laser Schematic

05/18/2014 5:34 PM

Hi All,

I have acquired a 350 Watt Coherent C Series Laser, part number 1062290 REV AD.

Does anyone know where I can obtain a schematic diagram of the laser wiring and the control system. I need this as all of the plugs have been cut off of the laser. I did send an email to Coherent, but no reply. Thanks.

Go to this page and find the 'Preinstallation Guide' for the one you have, if listed.

Thanks for the link. Tried it, but no luck. The laser I have is about 8 years old, so I think it is obsolete and as such not on Coherent's list of guides. I will probably have to rewire it.

Use the telephone, then. Telephone calls are synchronous, immediate, impossible to ignore and one speaks to a human being.

People forget that e-mail is a low-priority form of communication! If it's important, urgent or relevant, the phone is the better tool by far.

The usual reason that plugs are cut off any type of equipment in my experience, is when it doesn't work properly anymore, or proved to be hazardous in a way not planned for, simply to prevent "accidental" re-usage......

Have you considered this possibility?

You could do everything to reactivate it and achieve nothing except costs or danger.

Furthermore, even if it does work (which I sincerely hope it does), are you "Laser Trained"? Do you have all the correct safety equipment handy for the type? Wavelength for example demands safety goggles for that wavelength, not some other!!!!

(Assuming that the laser is not damaged in a way that causes it to produce the wrong wavelengths for some odd reason.....)

If you can not answer "Fully yes" to both questions, you are "playing" with your (and maybe others too!) health and safety as they can be REALLY dangerous.......even reflecting off different things at strange angles at powers that can boil an eyeball instantly.....

Best of luck Andy has give his safety warning!!!!

Hi Andy,

I know for a fact that it does work as it was my project with the company I worked for before they went into administration. The person who removed it for me just cut all the plugs off at both ends of all cables because of the large number of cables involved (some of these cables were for the control of servo motors and other associated equipment that was on the test rig), which ran for about 6 metres between the control panels and the lasers etc.

I am a Physicist, so yes I am fully competent with lasers and aware of all safety measures. But as it always worked when I was previously using it, I had no reason to determine if there were schematics available. In hindsight, I wish I had or at least marked up where each cable went.

That information should have been given right up front!!!!

The lack of it wasted several members time here....but it was therefore typical of the quality of the questions we often get asked.....

Is there anything else important that you neglected to mention?......

Er what??

I DIDN't wast anyones time. Read the question. All I wanted was an answer to my question. If I was not familliar with lasers I would of said so and probably would of had further questions. So, if you can not give a constructive answer, then do not waste my time!!

...and that is your opinion!!!!

For the future, remember the old computer saying "GIGO"......

ANY information related to the question is always important and valid........and should be given up front with no prompting, from people with some semblance of manners....

My guess is that you are young, under 40, maybe even under 30....I could guess a lot more but you might get very upset!!! So I won't!!

I'm off from this Blog as I have better things to do than to assist people with an over "young" developed personality!!! No matter how old!!

BYEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE

Normal practice with non-functioning electric equipment that might still be useful for spare parts is to cut off all wires. It should be taken as a warning.

Since all connectors been severed / plugs were cut, it is an indication that the unit is originally an FDA regulated medical device that may have been already declared obsolete and unsafe to use and therefore discarded. Cutting all electrical connectors is a typical practice of the hospital for any medical devices before they are discarded, (liability avoidance reasons)..

No medical equipment manufacturer, Coherent in this case will entertain any technical related inquiries Unless you are the registered original owner of their device.

Your best bet is to reverse engineer the unit using your imagination and technical know how..

Good luck.

Hi VSAR,

Please see reply I sent to Andy (above).

Yes, I probably will have to rewire it. :-(
