If you have a drawing of the contours you could import that .

If you don't have a drawing consider digitizing on a grid.

How do you intend to make the plate?

I get the bone drawing from ct scan. So that the contour surface have a lot of complex curvature geometry. What I intent to do is, to copy the geometry contour, offset the surface and thicken the surface to make it as plat. So it just like copy the contour surface. But I failed to do that..

I use Inventor rather that SolidWorks so I don't know if you can do this. I would create a work plane in the same orientation as your plate then project the contour on to the work plane.

thank you, I would do the same , but i dont know why I cannot project the contour.I got the bone from ct scan. Is it I need to refine or clean my geometry first?

The easiest way to get the exact contour whould be to indent or deform another surface (your plate) with the bone model. Search YouTube for a tutorial, there are many.

I don't think I can help any more as I don't know SolidWorks well enough. In Inventor, once I had created the work plane, I would create a new sketch on the plane then project all of the arcs etc that make up your profile.

OK I do this all the time. I will try and describe the steps. You will need to create 3 entities in Solidworks. The Plate as a .sldprt file, properly orientated on the 3d planes. Your contour object inserted into a new part, and a new name, also orientated on the 3d plane system, and an Assembly file.

Have both parts opened and create a New Assembly, name the assembly now

Insert the plate into the assembly and orientate it to the 3d plane system

Insert the contour part into the assembly and orientate it to your satisfaction

Once orientated FIX the contour to the assembly

Now select the plate for editing within the assembly under the MOLDS commands, select CAVITY it will ask for the feature to be used for the cavity...open the drop down tree within the assembly window and select the contour part, or carefully select the contour part directly on the part model itself.

Depending on the geometry you may be asked if multiple bodies have been created, if so just select the ones you want to keep, it may take some trial and error if many bodies are formed, ControlZ to back up and try again until you get what you want. You may HIDE the contour object now and view the contoured plate you have created.

If you need EXACT step by step instructions I will have to open Solidworks tomorrow and walk you through it. I am not an instructor in any way. I build injection molds and use this feature with many oddly shaped parts to create cavities and shapes all the time.

Also what version of Solidworks are you using? And if you really need it, you may send me the files and I will do it for you. But it really isn't that hard once you see it done.

I am not sure why you cannot. What is the error statement? There are many different reasons why Solidworks will not allow certain functions. Common ones for me are "Zero thickness geometry", "Open Sketch", and other similar things. What is your error?

That's wonderful. Good luck. I am very pleased to have at least pointed you in the right direction.
