Type of Grounding System

08/06/2014 4:24 AM

What is the basic deference between 1) Solid grounding 2) Low-resistance grounding 3) High-resistance grounding 4) Ungrounded.

Any one have detail technical notes for above type of grounding system

Wikipedia has an article on this detail.

Post Glover has a lot of helpful documents that will teach you about resistance grounding in their technical library:

Really? You want "detail" technical notes" on ungrounded? Really?

We'll have to put you on our staff.

We're looking for a fast engineer. Our present engineering staff are all half fast.

You should not hire Cr4P!

(cr4 Persons)

But you know that!

Article 250.21 of the NFPA 70 (NEC) delineates the use of ungrounded systems. That would be a great technical reference.

Many appliances (utilization equipment) do not utilize a ground pin (grounding pin).

I recommend the classic IEEE Green and Emerald books. These are a pretty solid foundation for grounding in commerical and industrial situations.

The new IEEE 3000 series may have the same information.

Do you mean "Bonding and Grounding" or just "Grounding"? These are three very distinctly different procedures. Bonding; Grounding; and Bonding and Grounding.

Good Luck, Old Salt

Now let me think on this one:

"What is the basic deference between 1) Solid grounding 2) Low-resistance grounding 3) High-resistance grounding 4) Ungrounded."

1/ solidly fastened down
2/ tethered to earth by a long piece of thin elastic
3/ tethered to earth by a short piece of thick elastic
4/ unfettered, floating above the earth

"Any one have detail technical notes for above type of grounding system"

Yes thank you, I had to pay for them.

Is this what you are being paid to do?

Surf the web and harass people?

You are a glowing example of a useless government employee.

GET BACK TO WORK!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

That wasn't harrassment. I was referring to some of the individuals on this forum who actually pen directives, guides, instructions, etc. on proper electrical (engineering) practices. The individual I responded to seems to fall into that category.

This is harrassment:

I am working...

...just not too hard...

How do you know my hours? I'm on Maxiflex!

(you wouldn't hit a guy with glasses, would you?)

Sorry the Call of the Gag was too great for me to resist. Blame Vaudeville for having too many good schticks to steal borrow.

Answers as follows,

1. Stick fork in light socket with bare feet on ground.

2. Stick fork in light socket with bare feet in pool of water on ground.

3. Stick fork in light socket while holding hands with someone with one bare foot on ground.

4. Stick fork in light socket while floating in a pool of water.

Re: Type of Grounding System

1. Solid Grounding: The system neutral is connected to ground using a negligible impedance conductor. The single-line-to-earth fault current could be as high as three phase symmetrical short circuit current.

2. Low Resistance Grounding: A low value of resistance is connected between system neutral & ground. The value of resistance is chosen such that the single-line-to-earth fault current is limited to a value of 200A to 1000A.

3. High Resistance Grounding: A high value of resistance is connected between system neutral & ground. The value of resistance is chosen such that the single-line-to-earth fault current is limited to a value of less than 10A.

4. Ungrounded: A system in which the system neutral is not intentionally connected to ground.
