Heat Signature Question

08/29/2014 4:37 PM

I have wondered if the vent stack on Saddam's hide hole would have given a detectable heat signature?

Not likely, unless it was at night and the temperatures had cooled down considerably, and he had a fire going....

He'd be undetectable unless he was keying in his PIN code when the IR camera swept the area.

Not sure. The vent is above ground and would be subject to wind and the cold air. Any heat it may be venting would quickly dissipate. As SolarEagle said, if he had a fire going, it would be easier.

Vulcan

I would have been looking for water vapor/CO2, from exhaled breath and killed him for contributing to global warming...which would have earned me a Nobel Peace Prize.

For all of the Enviros ( I am a one, but not at making Humans responsible for all of Natures' foibles)-- Does anyone remember what Sadam did to the oilfields, as he left Kuwait? Left em' burning for months, until the HotShots from Texas and other areas could go down and put them out. Pollution on a huge Global scale,, Let a drop of oil from the most regulated Oil Industry in world, be discovered , anywhere outside of it's intended flow target, and the Feds have 30 different agencies going after them. As to Sadam's WMD--Anyone know where Syria they got their MWD's? Maybe smuggled in from Iraq, as his head of Air Force wrote in his book? Convoys and 757's with all seats removed , leaving Baghdad 'before the last U.N. Inspectors were allowed in? These were the same weapons that were manufactured to wipe out the Kurds, and were probably given to Sadam, by the U.S., in his proxy war with Iran. Now in the hands of the Syrians. Looks what they did with them.. Who cares, except for curioso purposes , if he could be detected by his "Snorkel"? Did we , or were we able to detect his chemical weapons manufacturing facilities (Gotta vent somewhere), as the Israeli's did , with his Nuclear facilities? Now ISIS , with all of the weapons we gave to the "New" Iraq regime, being surrendered by Iraqi troops, being overrun by the ISIS troops..… Now we are bombing our own weapons stockpiles with our own bombs and guided missiles …. Rhetortical, and off-topic at best..Sorry for the rant--I am getting tired of all of this stuff…..

It is my opinion that the capabilities to look down with this much resolution have been in place for some time now and are only improving. Like the early reports on the identification of the terrorist that beheaded the journalist claimed the use of a facial recognition database using the eye. Later it appeared to shift to speech recognition. Whatever method is used, that person will "disappear".

Looking down "with this much resolution" would yield thousands of potential heat sources, if not many more.

Like I said, looking down without knowing his PIN, the search is fruitless.

Not if he was using a feather insulated sleeping bag from Cabella's that night! Good Luck, Old Salt

NO since the vent stack is far from where he was hiding... all pests knew not to be near their hole!

Highly unlikely, but it's a moot point now, in any case...

Within this "moot point" is the question. Wether it is "highly unlikely" or likely is cause for consideration by those with the ability for abstract thought.

No argument here....I didn't calculate 'Highly unlikely', just gave it it some abstract thought..
