08/31/2014 1:42 AM

Dear All,

there is a CEU heat exchanger (channel integrated with tubesheet), the total length include tubebundle is 9145 mm. tubebundle itself is 6642 mm length. the weight is about 30 ton. for designing the spreader bar i need to know the maximum length of tubebundle need to be supported to avoid damages. anyone have experienced for this?

A drawing would help, showing particularly the tube diameter and any baffles that may already be present.

Not here. You need to discuss the lift with the contractor(s) actually doing the job. Get on the phone and arrange a meeting over the drawings of the equipment and the site.

You would be best served to contact the heat exchanger and/or tube sheet manufacturer to get the correct lifting requirements and technique.

Failure to adhere strictly with the factory lifting recomendations will result in damage to the unit and subsequent failure.

Try the fabricator. After all, it will be available to photograph at all stages during its construction.

The correct bundle lifting method and CG should be noted on the HX bundle drawing.

Do you have any drawings or were they thrown away by the previous plant owner?

Your HX bundle is rather large, heavy and should have internal rails installed inside the shell for support during removal. Do you have these? Are there any drawings?

Some large horizontal HXs are designed for bundle removal by a specific device

I believe that the use of a spreader beam could be a mistake

Please complete this thread.....let us know of your final decision

OP needs to listen carefully to all other posters, especially those like Crabtree who recommended a serious tailgate meeting to plan the install lift. All of the site details will be pertinent. MJCronin also offers up sage wisdom here.
