Tube Expansion

09/18/2014 9:42 PM

I want to know the tube expansion tool selection and setting.
I know for normal reduction in wall thickness and what whould be the final tube dia.

from,

((dl-d)-c)*100/2T

d= id

dl=id after rolling

D= hole dia

do=tube OD

c=tube clearence with hole

T=wall thickness

But I dont know how to set these values in a machine. or how to give the torque value?

No one can help you.

You give no useful information.

Read the machine manual. You do have a manual, correct. And a real machine to use.

If yes, give the details.

We can't read your mind.

All you are trying to achieve is no leaks at the test pressure. I'd leave it to those practised in this art.

I aasume, you are a mekkanical designer. Better quit designer job today itself and find a job in production dept. or QA/QC Dept. to see what is happening in real manufacturing world.

Clearly you have to give us more context.

Asking for setting values on a machine that we dont know what it is (other than it seems to be a tube expansion machine) is like asking for the torque rating of the engine from a car.

Which car you might ask. Exactly which machine is it?

Can you give me the tyre pressure settings for the above car please?

Where is the torque coming into play when a pipe expansion should be achieved by pull force for an expansion cone.

What settings are needed?

Tube rolling (expansion) into tubesheets is a specialty that depends on specific design of the chosen method, including grooves (if any), hole roughness (if relied on), sealing elements such as O-rings (if any), material compressibility, return flanges on tube ends, etc.

These elements can be calculated from first principles, but I think it is more usual to follow advice from rolling-tool vendors. RTFM, for one thing, but be prepared to understand the principles involved.

The OP is asking decent questions, but so far it seems that none of the repliers has experience with tube rolling.

That might be useful, but only if readable.
