You need to plug these terms into an internet search engine, Mildred. Then surf through the results. Did you try Wikipedia before coming here, by any chance?

I believe he is looking for the definition of reliability in a specific engineering sense not the global generic definition of reliability. Best practice from an engineering view might not have anything to do with Wikipedia.

Reliability = Up time/Demand time

Reliability = (Demand time - downtime)/Demand time

Take your pick

It has Quality if it does what the customer wants it to do.

It has Reliability if it does what the customer wants it to do when the customer asks it to do it.

For a number value, see response above.

1. Reliability means trust worthy.

2. Equipment reliability means equipment will function without any breakdowns.

3. Plant reliability means whole plant consisting of many equipments is reliable.

Re: Reliability

Reliability- our group definition is: Operator not by breakdown machine will stop.

Lots of factor must contribute to equipment for its reliability:

Sample: a. Machine must be in Basic Condition (perform its basic function)

b. Machine must be in Safe condition

c. Easy to: 1. Clean, Inspect, Lubricate & Tighten

d. Proper Maintenance for reliability

e. Proper personnel training

f. identify losses

g. identify hard to reach places

h. identify hard to clean

i. Machine breakdown must be analize in order not to re-occur

e. etc.....

The questionn is HOW?

There must be a system to create and all must be measured.
