Source for 316 SS Acme Hex Nuts

11/19/2014 10:42 AM

Hello All:

We have been looking for an American Domestic supplier for 1 1/2-4 Acme Hex Nuts in material type 316 SS or 316L SS.

Does anyone know of a source to buy these from stock without a special Machining Request?

Thank you,

I actually need two pieces, lol, yes we have tried McM, Fastenal, Grainger, Marsh Fasteners and many many many more.

I could take a dozen for future jobs but I really only need two for now.

Thanks,

18-8 seems common enough.

316 may be special order.

Check with these guys:Enco - Guaranteed Lowest Prices on Machinery, Tools and ...

they claim to have them.

Thanks lyn:

Enco did not have but they referred me to MSC which did not have them but they contacted their manufacturing supplier while I waited on the phone and they agreed to quote an order of 25 pcs. Quote should arrive in 1-3 days.

Thanks for the help.

You might want to consider locating and contacting a local or remote metal recycler.

There is a large metal recycling company in Page, Arizona that deals with a broad range of new and used metal components/materials.

They carry a very large inventory and are very accommodating.

Company Name: Page Steel

Location: Page, Arizona

You might try whoever manufactured the screw to which these nuts must mate.

(Sounds like engineering pornography, don't it?)

That's funny Tornado.

Yes MSC said Keystone is going to provide the quote.

The local machine shop that is making the screw as per a request from me as per a request from my customer can make two nuts as required for a certain price. They also quoted quantity pricing for various lot sizes. All made from 2.375" stock 316/316L SS.

I was hoping to get better pricing from a stocking supplier.

Thanks All.

These nuts, in this material, are not common.

Semi-exotic materials are not in every stock bin.

One place I worked found it easier to machine 316L corrosion ressistant steel, Hasteloy C-276 and Titanium pump impellers and mechanical parts in-house.

If you want to play, you have to pay.

These are just Acme nuts on a belt take-up in saltwater. I just wish they would have picked a common thread size.

Thanks again.

Star Stainless Steel Co.

30 West End Road

Totowa, NJ 07512

9*

If they don't have it, it probably isn't made. Get all my 18-8, 304 and 316 fastener supplies from them. Not overpriced and they ship anywhere.

Good Luck, Old Salt

Thanks Old Salt:

I gave Star a call, funny thing: they stock that thread size in HHCS but do not carry the nuts for them.

Looks like a Fab job.

Thanks All.

Thanks lonster:

No luck at Huron Auto but thanks anyway.

It has been three days IMO and I have not yet received a quote from Keystone via MSC.

Just sitting here watching the lead-time go down the drain and the expedite fees go up.

I will let you all know if and when I get a quote from them.

Next week is Thanksgiving also...that will affect the 'attention'.

Happy Thanksgiving to All, all around the world, I hope we All can find Some Thing to be Thankful for.

Still have not received a quote from MSC via Keystone. I am going to order them locally from a machine shop.

Thanks All.
