Help With ID of Meteorite

02/04/2015 8:23 PM

We've had this in our back yard forever. I'd like to send it to school for show-n-tell. Anybody care to tell its story for us?

Meteorology is not me strong suit.

Thanks.

Not yet. I've had two surgeries recently and other issues that have held up progress.

The rock is in the bed of my pickup, just waiting.

The prof only has time for me two days a week in two hour patches and work sometime interferes with my private life.

I look at it every day so as not to forget it.

Bear with me.

Fine with me.

I presume the surgeries went well and hope you have a good recovery.

Stay well.

I hope they are not from touching the rock. It looks like something from some science fiction movies I have seen. Get well.

Sorry, but surgery to remove a chunk of cancer from my forehead has delayed any progress on said rock.

The doctor thought that was more important than a rock.

I had scheduled it for next month, but.....................................................

I talked to the geology prof and he said to bring it by. That was before my plans got changed.

Lyn,

I think we should get old first and get younger as we go along.

Take care

Don't give up. I've had two more chunks cut out of my head and then took a break for summer vacation.

The rock is still in the back of my truck.

Soon.

Does it really take more than a month for your local college professor to identify this piece of schist?

No, if only I could ever find the time ti take it over. I have a two hour window, two days a week.

Jeez.

If a man says he'll do something, he will. There's no use in reminding him every six months.

I am still hanging in here lyn.

I know Rome wasn't built in a DAY. (With a bit of thought and preparation it could probably be flattened in a day but who would want to do that.)

Rocks Rock!

Thanks for the moral support.

Mondays and Wednesdays from 9:00AM to 11:00AM is my window.

I have to be in court tomorrow morning and then I'm traveling for a week.

The rock isn't complaining. I think it likes riding in my truck with me.

I won't be taking the rock with me on my trip.

It has taken a while to prove that gravity is actually a wave so I am happy to wait to see that a rock is really a rock.

Come on Lyn lets rock on!

Thank you for your continuing faith that I will someday overcome the forces that have kept the rock firmly planted on the ground.

Life leads us down curious paths, sometimes not of our own choosing.

Don't give up, your patience will be duly rewarded.

So, the opinion is sedimentary and that the dark layers are limestone and the reddish layers are chert.

Yes, Arizona's geology is diverse. I hiked half way to the bottom of the Grand Canyon once (Plateau Point) and the view back up the canyon wall was amazing. Millions of years of geologic history right before your eyes.

This specimen came from the desert near the California border however.

Pretty much it is rock loaf. A disparate analogy to what unruly prisoners have served to them for meals in Texas (food loaf).
