Century Old Record Broken by British Steam Car

Earlier I had written on the British Steam Car is all set for breaking the 103 year old record which was set during the early stages of motoring. Looks like it has been broken finally! The British Steam Car team has stated that in the two runs required to be considered for the record, the car has achieved an average speed of 139.843 miles an hour over a measured mile.

Excellent!

And the best part was that when the driver finished he felt really relaxed from the steam schvitz!

More likely, the categorization scheme fell over! It's a steamishy vessel to be sure.

What surprises me is that I expected with so much "KnowHow" and modern steam technology, they would have doubled the old record....at least!

Instead that appear to have only beaten it by 12 MPH of so!!!!!

Just compare the looks of the two cars alone.....

Maybe they should have gone to a reciprocating engine (or four) instead of a "steam eating" Turbine......

I agree.

Hell it looks like a cowling of plexiglas for the machine of 1906 would have done the job.
