Where are You in the Flash Fight?

Posted May 28, 2010 10:07 AM

You've seen reports of the ongoing war of words between Adobe and Apple over Apple's decision not to support Flash on iPhones, iPods, and iPads amd looking instead to HTML5 as its platform for video support. What do you think about this Flash vs. HTML5 debate? Should Flash's (and Adobe's) grip on web video be broken? Do you think Apple's stance is technology-driven, or designed only to maintain its position in the marketplace? Is Flash the future for video (as it is today), or does HTML5 signal a new kid moving in?

The preceding article is a "sneak peek" from Sensors & Switches, a newsletter from GlobalSpec. To stay up-to-date and informed on industry trends, products, and technologies, subscribe to Sensors & Switches today.

Wouldn't have an apple product if it was given to me - İ just don't care for Jobs. My first two computers were apple (apple 2+ and a Mac SE30) then İ decided being the odd guy out whose machine was compatible with no one was not a good idea. Later came my distaste for little Stevie the emperor.

Good answer Russ - exactly why I went pc in 1990.
(after about 6 macs) Gates didn't so much win the war,
as that apple gave it away, with arrogance. (imo)

I must start by saying that I have a Windows 7 64-bit system and I am more than happy with it. I didn't think I would be.

With Windows 7, IE 64-bit is offered. It is faster than IE, but here's the thing: Adobe has no flash player for it yet. They claim there's a beta version, but I cannot find it.

Are they holding out on doing more development to see how this issue goes?

In this case, maybe Adobe ought to get into hardware and simply bypass the entities that reject them.
