Meet the Moderator and Blogger: Jaxy

Posted August 08, 2010 12:01 AM by SavvyExacta

Jaxy is an active contributor to CR4 as both a blogger and a moderator. She typically has blogs running every week in Jaxy of All Trades.

Tell me about yourself (major, college, work experience)

I recently graduated from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute with a Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering and currently work at GlobalSpec, Inc. I tend to like to keep busy and become involved with that I enjoy. The busier I am, the less likely that I will be bored, which increases my chances of living a happy and fulfilled life.

Why did you choose to moderate/blog?

I chose to blog because I love learning something new. By blogging, I can share my newfound knowledge with people.

I chose to moderate because I thought that I could make a positive difference to the CR4 community and because I harbor a deep desire to have special privileges.

Favorite part about moderating/blogging?

I like being able to help people. So whether I am cleaning up a forum post so that it could be easier to read and get more constructive comments or using my knowledge in a comment to help people, it is a win-win for me. I can't lie; I also like good answer ratings. But who doesn't feel a boost of confidence when they see their comment laced in green and sealed with a "thumbs-up"? If you say no, you are lying.

Blogging topics: How do you choose?

I mostly use my RSS feeds to pick and choose topics that I think other people may be interested in. I also write about what I am interested in and about some of my hobbies.

Favorite part about CR4?

My favorite and least favorite part is that guests are allowed to comment. There are tons of smart people, but not all of them are registered to CR4.

One word that best describes you?

Enthusiastic

What are your hobbies?

I love to do things outdoors. Biking, swimming, softball, tennis, walking, gardening, reading, and badminton are just a few things that I like to do outside when the weather is nice. I am particularly fond of cooking, but not cleaning. I also like going to local farmer markets to buy fresh and delicious foods.

Favorite website & why?

Well, if CR4 doesn't count… I would have to say that I enjoy Fooducate because I learn the good and bad things about food, which is very important to me.

Favorite Bands?

I love songs from Scandal, Def Leppard, and Whitesnake.

What are 5 things you can't live without?

Kittens

Food (Asian Cuisine, Herbs, Spices, etc.)

Email

Water

Spiral Notebooks

"and because I harbor a deep desire to have special privileges."

You owe me half a beer and a new keyboard for that.

Chris, in regards to eating veggies: just close your eyes and bite into the puppy thinking it's a hunk of beef! LOL

Honestly, I've lost nearly 100 pounds the past 7 months by inceasing my intake of veggies and reducing my knoshing on meat. I do love being a carnivore, but I was faced with some serious dietary and health choices!
Really, I love eating (and craving) Slim Jims by the box full, but the Doc said NO NO NO! :-(

Anyhow, in the process my A1C, Chlosterol, and blood pressure levels have been reduced dramatically.

Enjoy the brocolli and green beans! "DOWN THE HATCH BABY!!!!" lmao

Just to say that, concerning your blog about flower pots, then on a Yahoo boat group, there is an ongoing conversation about improvising flower pots for heating boats...complex shapes might have benefits?

Stuart.

U.K.

Def Leppard, eh? Pyromania or Paranoid?

We'll get you onto the grown up bands eventually.

Oh My! They are sooooooo cute. Especially the last one. Too bad I already have a little furball to tend to. Hopefully soon I will be able to get a kitten, but it isn't in the cards right now.

You sure. Your furball looks like they could use a playmate for the long hours your away at work to keep them occupied. LOL

Hi, Jaxy. I graduated (Technical University) about 21 years ago. It seems to be so far away and so close at the same time. For the last 19 years I work in Intracom Telecom (the biggest telecom company in Greece) as a hardware (analog & digital) designer.

The economic situation is not good in Greece in 2010. (Actually, the problems were accumulated during the last 2 decades but we prefered to... ignore them. But now we are obliged to face them due to the global economic crisis.) So... any good job in USA for me???...

I participate to the CR4 forums but not as often as I'd like to (lack of time because of my work). Here I find a lot of infos and interesting opinions. But, most of all, I like to help the others and share my knowledge with them. And I, also, enjoy some really exciting discussions (especially in more scientific issues).

... But who doesn't feel a boost of confidence when they see their comment laced in green and sealed with a "thumbs-up"?... You are right. Although, a "GA" doesn't, always, show a really good and reliable answer. I've seen some wrong answers to get a "GA". Or I've seen some just funny comments to get a "GA". Some guys hasten to vote an answer just because they are impressed and without any certainty that it is correct. I, also, have the sense that some guys get "GA's" more... "easy". (Mmm... I have the sense that if I was an American guy I should probably have a lot more "GA's" than I have till now... ...)

any good job in USA for me?

I don't think there are many 'good' jobs left anywhere! It is hard to find a job, even in the USA. But I am sure if you are good at what you do that you would find something.

The voting system on CR4 has long meant a lot of things. Doesn't mean the system is totally bad, just slightly corrupted :)
