The Top 10 Cars That Need to Come Back But Can't

Posted July 23, 2010 12:01 AM by CarDomain

We got a ton of comments on our recent list of Top Ten Vehicles That Need to Come Back. Still, I didn't include any of the cars below since they are all from "dead" brands. But if we lived in an alternate universe, then yes, all of these rides would need to come back, too.

So here's our list of the top 10 cars that need to come back because their brands are dead. Which rides would you put on your list?

1. Pontiac Trans Am

2. AMC Gremlin

3. Plymouth Baracuda

4. Plymouth Road Runner

5. Oldsmobile 442

6. Mercury Cougar

7. Edsel Citation Convertible

8. International Scout

9. Studebaker Starlight Coupe

10. Tucker

I don't think the Gremlin belongs on that list. If you're going to list the Gremlin you might as well list the Ford Pinto.

Why not look at all the new compacts with similar body shapes. It was ahead of it time in body style.

I would like to add a few extra cars for your consideration,

1 The Citroen DS 21 both sedan and wagons ( I owned both ) here we see a 1969 Citroen DS 21 being used by the French as Mars Rover

2 The Studebaker Hawk and Golden Hawk

The one vehicle that should come back, but due to detroits lobbying against it never will, didnt make the list. The 1981-1982 Datsun Diesel pickup truck with the 4 cylinder sd22 engine. Minor injector pump mods frequently gave owners well over 50 mpg, in a small pickup truck. Factory specs were 38mpg city, 42 highway, i believe. With a screwdriver, you could tweak it to 60mpg plus. Please leave out the "that engine doesnt meet epa guidelines crap. No petro fueled 50 mpg pickup truck will ever meet their "guidelines" This truck runs even better on waste cooking oil than on diesel. And was outfitted with the bombproof dieselkikki injector pump. All that was needed to make this truck meet epa standards was equiping it with beru ag continuous duty glowplugs, and keeping them hot on about 9vdc while running. Mine had over 500,000 miles on it, and finally got too worn out to ignite the fuel. It ran on waste cooking oil the last 2 yrs i owned it.

The only bad thing about it was that it took off a bit slower than your average golfcart, unless you, like i did, modified the injector pump linkage so you could manually go "full fuel" then it would light up the tires, and blow a huge cloud of black(diesel) or white (cooking oil) smoke, kinda like the diesel supertuner chips do now if put in race mode. Snatching the ip fuel to full power was also a very effective way to deal with tailgaters, lol.

There are no European cars in the list. I am sure there would be some models from the likes of;

Facel Vega

Bristol
Armstrong Siddely

Allard

Swallow ( the SS100 maybe?)

Delahaye

Talbot Lago

Hispano Suiza

or some of the great American cars of the 30's from the Cord stable?
