Generate Green Electricity from Your Balcony

Posted November 03, 2010 12:22 PM

From Discovery News - Top Stories:

Industrial designer Jonathan Globerson has one of those ideas that makes you go, "Oh, duh! Why don't we all have one yet?" It's so simple, and yet so smart. His Greenerator design is a personal generator that converts wind and sun to power and can do so from a balcony, without messing with the view. Here in Colorado, where one of the numerous local ballot questions was about extending the building height limit to allow for renewable energy projects on rooftops, Globerson's design could be a way to preserve the view while reducing reliance on coal. Heck, if it's possible to squeeze an evening full of hours out of a Nokero solar lightbulb on my modest, north-facing balcony, imagine what I could do with a Greenerator.

Yeah, right. Even a full-scale device 4 times the size of the toy-like version shown is not going to produce enough energy to power a full-size refrigerator 24/7. Great idea of using magnetic levitation to reduce the friction; it will use free energy, of course

Ohh, but it's so cute...

Analysis by <some author>: What analysis? And what gullible comments!

Industrial designers design stuff to look good, not necessarily work. Engineers make stuff that works.

The Greenerator looks good but won't be of much use. ffej

It might play a radio or eventually charge a cell phone. And what about the spider webs? Where will they go? Poor spiders. It's just wrong on so many levels.

Alyssa Danigelis Typical ultragreen blogger - works for nothing but praise from all her little friends probably. Maybe the designer is a boyfriend or she wishes so.

As has been pointed out - many times bigger than this would also be useless!

An artsy-fartsy PV panel and VAWT on a balcony?

And then they wonder how come people can't understand their BS!

Infotainment is correct - I could name a few dozen of this type that blog on the green sites. Easily impressed and zero knowledge of what they are looking at so they write the story they are told.

Some of them must be paid by the subject of the article as well. In particular, I have seen one building up wind turbines (off the wall VAWT types) that I know she is well aware they won't work.

The same lady knows all about capacity factor but still claims 100% operating time. If she is not being paid by the subject then she is even more stupid than I think she is.

Read that as 'unable to pour pee out of a boot with the instructions written on the heel'.

Let us not throw it out. I think it is really a very good idea for low capacity street lamps eg in pathways and parks. It will need a smaller battery, It will be decorative, it will give a message.

How much power will such a thing produce - maybe 1 LED - a pin point of light for part of the night. The VAWT will most likely produce zero - balconies are not at all a suitable location. The PV cells are small and very few are pointed in the right direction - indirect sun does virtually nothing.

Messages like this simply make green look stupid.

Positive messages where something is accomplished I agree are a good thing - but this is a bad joke.

The Wobblegen

Patent attorneys! Start licking your fingers.

My tinfoil hat over a pot of water attached to a Sterling engine would beat this thing in power out put hands down and would look better.

Reminds me of my cell phone charger for the beach, hills or fast runners. (Power transmitting lines not shown). Some of you would have seen these from a while back, so, sorry for repeating, just couldn't help myself

I wonder, Ky.

Hi Ky - Post this beach wear on CleanTechnica or Green Biz and watch that bunch start to drool!

You would need a production line ready to handle all the orders coming in!

Move over Zukenburg - here comes the new king!

I had a 4h video on you tube Russ. It got banned yesterday. Just the electromagnetic forces the moving pictures created interfered with the near air base here. Yep, these army guys are controlling every thing.

They were banned from the beaches as well because they were disturbing the wild life. I told them the apparatus was recharging my mobile (cell phone for some of you guys) which could save someones life.

Yep, you guessed it, the army had the last say. Again, too strong electromagnetic interference near the water. You know those waves travel faster in water, especially ocean water and the higher conductivity.

Plus the phone company could not know when I was recharging and send me a text reminding me that some band is in town and with the purchase of............

Its not a theory Mate its fully fully blown reality!

Did I mention the levitation bit?

Gosh this is a great place to be. Making fun of others with out having to mention Religion.

Ky.

That is the one - just saw the movie The Social Network - the poor fellow is a first class misfit it seems.

Of course with a billion dollars in his pocket he could care less.

But with this major invention surely you will surpass his wealth and fame!

Very un-Green Electricity from Your Balcony

11/05/2010 8:00 AM

Because of its low power output, this thing will consume more energy and create more waste in its production than it can ever possibly make up for in "green" electricity. In reality, it's very un-green.
