Cloud Computing Software Makes a Hard Impact

Posted March 05, 2011 7:00 AM

Have you taken a hard look at a very soft-sounding computer system: cloud technology?

Cloud computing, or Software-as-a-Service, is available via paid rental or membership over the Internet. Participants share drawings, specifications, and are privy to the identical information.

The downfall to all this is inherent in Cloud's benefits: the sharing of information. Don't include data that can destroy your competitive edge.

However, the real-time sharing of contract document information is crucial to a project's ultimate success. Not long ago, a last minute addendum calling for additional structural steel or excavation could delay a project for weeks. Now that same information can be shared by everyone immediately.

The preceding article is a "sneak peek" from Construction Tools & Equipment, a newsletter from GlobalSpec. To stay up-to-date and informed on industry trends, products, and technologies, subscribe to Construction Tools & Equipment today.
